There are market squares in the USA, lots of Southern California and Arizona towns were started by the Spanish, get out there and ride.

Does a 'Place du Marché' count? Even if there isn't a market happening at that time?

I know how strict you buggers can be.

Be a bit mean to say no to a 'place of the market'!

(I bet there's loads of English market squares that don't actually have a market any more too).

Is there hell. We have "farmers markets" which takes place in a car park, not a *market square*. Our local one takes place in the parking lot of a winery so far from the town center it's almost in the next town.

OK, so it's a French Tabac/Presse (tobacconist/newsagent) which also doubles as bar, coffee shop, purveyor of phone cards etc, but I think it meets the brief.

Do they have to coordinate and have set colours or can they just choose their own? It would be easy for one awkward neighbour to bugger up the whole aesthetic by choosing a bad combination.

I don't know if there's a general concensus,or perhaps any bright colour does the job. There's a quite a good community spirit generally. It's probably in the individual's interest to choose a colour which isn't out of place,as it'll make their own pad look shit too! I think you'd have to work at it to be totally gash. There's one further down painted black, gloomy as feck on it's own,but it still fits in.
