Yeah. Was on same airfield as we raced on. They do record attempts every year.demographic wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2024 1:25 pm Bloke I once worked with on one site (Geordie called Sam) used to go to Elvington somewhere for top speed runs on his breathed on Busa.
Think there was some kind of event for it.

I seem to recall Elvington have days with full emergency back up for people to do top speed runs. I think Henry Cole and Alan Millyard did their 2 up record attempt on the Dodge Viper engined bike that the genius Millyard builtdemographic wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2024 1:25 pm Bloke I once worked with on one site (Geordie called Sam) used to go to Elvington somewhere for top speed runs on his breathed on Busa.

Re: Where Can I Go Fast? Really Fast.
There's lots of rules. Including one that says if you wear specs, you need clear visor and clear screen. Doubt the fast bikes will have clear screensBigyin wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2024 5:29 pmI seem to recall Elvington have days with full emergency back up for people to do top speed runs. Re: Where Can I Go Fast? Really Fast.
You need them for reading the rules as well ..... "those wearing dark glasses need clear visor and clear screen"
Normal specs use will be EITHER clear visor or clear screen ....... or just stop when the grey stuff ahead starts to look green

Err, had you forgotten about it then? Do the rules forbid senile people from doing high speed runs, mebbe best practice filling the form out so you don't miss yer chance.Yorick wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2024 2:28 pmYeah. We raced on circles. They did straight lines. Our racing bit closed donkey's years agodemographic wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2024 9:49 pmErr, had you forgotten about it then? Re: Where Can I Go Fast? Really Fast.
Plenty of places near me. There are several straights that are over 20 miles long. There's a 4 mile stretch on one of them where the magazines did top speed runs on bikes & in cars back in the day. CHP would close the road for them.

Re: Where Can I Go Fast? Really Fast.
I posted a trip a few years ago now on TRC about our rip to the Millau bridgeit was brand new and our trip predated the Top gear one, theres a section aof motorway four lanes wide with a slight dished relief up to the Horizon no turn offs or joining traffic we took a lane each I was on my zx12R unrestricted there were two blackbirds and an R1 as well. I got to the point that the zx12 just wouldnt go any faster it was well off the clock reading 200 plus Obvs somewhere between 186 and what ever the derestriction had given it. Anyway after staring at the front end whilst hugging the tank I came to the conclusion that was enough and rolled off the throttle the most remakable thing was the closing speed as you decelerated stuff in adjacent lanes hurtle past demonstrating the kinetics of the whole thing interest now piqued it was the only time Ive done that. NB had to buy a new rear tyre in Le Mans as the canvas showed in the middle of the rear, post run.

Re: Where Can I Go Fast? Really Fast.
I've been dealing with TTS. They won't supply a bike for me to take somewhere.
They like it on their local runway.
Let's see what happens.

My mate bought a brand new one of those in the exact same colour. Some arsehole stole it before he'd even finished running it in

Re: Where Can I Go Fast? Really Fast.
Perhaps people are approaching this the wrong way!
Has Capt Canaria thought of skydiving or wingsuit ing for the buzz he's looking for?
Hitting big numbers on a runway doesn't feel THAT fast.....til you pop out of the bubble.
