Re: What have you done today thread?
Had a fraughtful journey.
Ferry G.C. to south Fuerteventura 2:00
2 hours
Ferry North Fuerteventura to lanzarote 6:00
Satnav say 1 hrs 38 mins drive between ports.
It'll be good
Ferry 15 mins late . 1 hrs 45 to Ferry depart.
Satnav says 1 hrs 38 driving
Gives me 7 mins spare.
In the car it'd be easier but with trailer was tight.
Constantly watching Satnav countdown
Then fuel gauge had it's occasional hiccup.
Dropped from 100k left, to empty.
Fark. Quick fill up.
Satnav hows arrival 6:00. Fark
Last 20 miles motorway so give it beans.
Last mile through the port town had about 10 speed humps. Not good with bike in trailer.
Arrived 5:59 and waved straight on.
Ferry left 6:02

Had a comedy moment in the garage... Was working my way around the ST cleaning the glass with aerosol glass cleaner & the really spiffy glass cleaning cloths they sell at Horrible Fright (Grant brand). All was going well until I got to the drivers door where I failed to notice the window was open so ended up cleaning the seat & dashboard instead.

Aha. I always wondered who owned that big runway.
I've crossed it a few times.

It's not big, it's tiny!
If your pilot doesn't stop in time you're going for a swim.

I've improved from last year. Fifth swim this month and did the mile in 46.06.Yorick wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2023 7:31 pmSat on patio. Bone idle. No go.Yorick wrote: ↑Tue Jun 13, 2023 6:43 pmI'm getting good now
I was doing 2 pairs (2x25) quite easily so tried 4 pairs. I realises I perhaps wasn't breathing deep enough, potentially leaving dirty air in snorkel as well.
So big big breaths and 4 pairs (200m) has become easy.
When I started I looked at 32 sessions. Now it's only 8.
Less daunting. Fewer rest stops.
Time dropped to 50.5 minutes.
Average speed up from 0.86 MPH to 1.19 MPH
Had 2 small Decathlon energy bars and jumped on the GSXR.
After 4 pairs of lengths I felt good, so aimed for 8 non stop.
After 8 still good so carried on.
Was so easy so aimed for 800m then a rest.
At 800m I was cool so went for the big mile, none stop.
Never a problem really. The last 50m was probably as fast as the first.
Then I sprinted extra 10m to make it a full mile.
The energy bars helped as usually go late afternoon with no food in me. Usually late brekky at 11 ish.
I was absolutely buzzing and elated.
Was pissed off at the time.
Only 3.5 mins better than last time. Then realised that last time I would have only had 3 rests.
Buzzing.
In UK I always joined the gym during dry January and did the progressive pool thing. I was always just happy to reach a mile.
Now at 63, I'm doing a mile. Non stop !!!
Just having a beer by the pool feeling just as proud as I felt when I won my first racing trophy in 1982.
Just sent an email to my pal's wife who runs the Iron-man event every year
Speed now 1.28 MPH
Speed up to 1.3 MPH
So I'm getter fitter and better looking every year

Re: What have you done today thread?
Getting the van ready for our Italian getaway. Spent the day washing the roof off and sorting out the cooker. Had to sort out 2 thermocouples and one of the ignitors. YT videos said usually the connector on the back of the regulators are usually the culprits, so off with hob it was, a quick squirt of contact cleaner on the leads and that's €180 saved!
A bit of lock wire sorted the ignition, happy days

My technique is to strim the grass really short, lay the pipe on the ground and then go back in a decade or so to check progress.Count Steer wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 7:25 pmI've Googled but all I find is 'the mystery of the sbwp' so do tell more....

Washed the van, again.
I can't put into words how dirty it gets at race weekends
