Limited mileage insurance

Post by ChrisW »

I've been using this for years - when you're getting an ins quote and they ask for annual mileage. I've always just selected my best estimate depending on the car / bike and what I'm likely to do.

I've always thought that it would be able to be checked on, maybe with MOT records / service if available but something's only occurred to me recently as I'm letting someone else use a car for a while that they're covered for 3rd party - under their own insurance. They might well rack up a few thousand miles off and on over a couple of months, which are miles I've not driven.

Am I missing something or does this make declared mileage hard to enforce/verify?

Would be a shame if you disconnected the speedo drive.
Or bought a spare speedo

I'm required to send pics of the odometers every June 1st. Limits on the ZX11, ZRX11 & F350 are 2500 miles a year on each of them. I've already done over 700 miles in the F350 since I picked it up on March 20th, but around 500 of that was driving it home from Arizona. Luckily the clock resets on June 1st at 12.01AM. The bikes aren't even close to the 2500 limit.. which is a bit of a bugger :(

You could change the date on your phone.
They'd never know.

I have no need to cheat the system.
