98 r1 fairings colour

Post by dern »

Does anyone know what colour the inside of the fairings on the red and white 98 r1 were? Were they the same as the white used on the outside?

Thanks

Just the white or do you know of the red was used in the inside to mirror the outside?

On my similar vintage R6 the paint was white, the red was all stickers. The inside of the fairings was a very thin coat of the white.

It’s not for anything exciting (to anyone else) I’m afraid. Just killing time until it stops raining or we move house, which ever happens first.

I started the Taira Racing R1 kit about a decade ago and never finished it... it's still half finished in the filing cabinet in the garage!

On the blue ones the bodywork was painted, the inside of the fairing was black (I think)

Should do a 'build' thread.

(I watch this sort of thing on IG, some of the kits are  in detail/complexity).

I have been watching loads of the yt build videos and the builds are incredible. I'm about 4 builds in and mine have gone from shit to just about acceptable at a push from a certain angle. It's a lot more difficult than I thought it would be but very satisfying and I'm enjoying the learning process an awful lot.

What's the make of the kit? It's been decades since my last kit build and maybe it's time for some more.

Tamiya. Their kits are really good quality.

The only thing I'd say is that if you don't have an airbrush and compressor I'd think about getting one. I was very very disappointed with the finish I got on my first kit with a brush. I've just built up to using paint and a gloss clear coat to a point where I'm sort of happy with the results...

I only started building kits again during lockdown and have done 4 so far. Used to build loads as a kid.

Would you like it moved? It's still 95% bike related and not causing any headaches. :D

It's as much motorcycling as anything the weather is currently allowing.
