You have to add 20% VAT on the hammer price, plus a buyer's premium (!) of 16% on all lots. Unless you get something at a real knock-down steal, the price could add up really quickly...

Helmets and kid's clothing don't attract VAT, but that's standard. Everything else is subject to VAT at 20% and buyer's premium of 16%.

That Mecums joint in the US is a crazy place. Oul boys beating each other to death with their wallets and paying daft money for stuff, just because they want to win.

And VAT on the premium too - let's call it the 40% it is!

I've sold quite a bit at auction recently & unless you do get a bidding war going the buyer's premium is basically the seller's discount re-phrased.

Few bits of BMW stuff in there too.

Agree though, this kind of auction gets people really overexcited, and stuff often goes for way over the odds.

Just looking at some Goretex strides and matching jacket. Both currently £70. Add in the doobies and we're up to £97.44 each. They don't get involved in postage, so I'd have to arrange a courier to pick up and deliver....

And that's before people get all excited and start out-bidding each other.

Sounds like a ballache rather than a bargain.

They were a BMW dealer for quite a while, before they got dropped by BMW and started doing KTM... I don't know much history about the dealership, but those I do tell me that the writing was on the wall for some time whilst they were a BMW dealership and getting KTM merely prolonged their inevitable demise...

Even though I'll be driving past Chester in my van a week after this auction ends, I'm still not getting too excited... Prices on most stuff is already way above where I expected it to be! I have been watching since the moment the auction went live, sadly not many bikes of interest, but the clothing is already going for near enough ebay prices (once you factor in the VAT & buyers premium that totals 40% near enough)... Got a few cheeky bids in on a few things that would be useful personally if cheap enough, but won't be raising those bids and am not bidding on anything speculatively to sell on as the "bargains" have all but disappeared already.
