I know. But it makes me feel cold!! I’ve had the coldest ten days I can remember everJody wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2024 12:28 pmIt's not the cold you're feeling, it's the damp. A major problem in the UK is the damp air, even when it's not raining, it's still grey and damp for about 9 months a year !Noggin wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2024 9:28 pm When did the uk get so bloody cold at this time of year?!!
I’ve been here a week and feel like I’ve been cold the whole time!!
Part of the issue is that no one seems to have their hearing on. Is there a cut off date for using the heating?? Or is it just too expensive?
Ok, I didn’t pack the right clothes for cold weather, but it’s end of March/early April, I didn’t think I’d need thermals
I’m gonna be glad to get back to the ski resort, it’ll feel warmer!!!
It’s damned cold here innit ?!!

It’s really not actually cold, but this is the longest I’ve been in the uk in 6 years and I’m really not used to the damp
It’s been snowing at home. I can’t wait to get back there!!!

Bloody hell man,I've been in full thermals under a t-shirt and a fleece and a woolly hat. The only time any of that comes off is when the woodburner is lit in the evening. As for shorts,I don't own a pair because I'd never have occasion to wear them.MrLongbeard wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2024 1:21 pm S'all in your mind, I'm on the east coast today in shorts n t-shirt, totally not cold, ok so not warm but still a long way off needing a jumper.

Weather seems to be on 'spin cycle' here today. Pop outside to pot up some pond plants 'cos the weather is OK. Step outside, it starts to rain. Wait 5 minutes it stops. 5 minutes later the sun is out and I'm peeling off layers. Get the job done and...it rains again. Then stops and the sun comes out. Ho hum, it's only showers and it's warm enough.
I guess it's Spring.

Was rather refreshing walking along the promenade getting the side eye from everyone;

It snowed here this morning... Not "here" here, but a few miles away on East side of town. Dry here & clear sky, but a bit nipply.

Most of my work since crimbo has been outside, I've finished early three times and in total the bad weather has cost me three and a half hours in lost work.

Most of my work has been shuttering concrete but not much is kneeling down.

Got a mate a few years back was doing labouring for a guy cash in hand. Big slabbing job and he was kneeling in the cement a lot during the day. Slowly that night his skin was burning and ended up in A&E. Since he told me that i wont even kneel in postcrete without some form or protection. Probably an allergy thing as it never bothers my hands when using the stuff.demographic wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2024 9:18 pm I'm pretty sure it is.

I've heard of a bloke who worked for Hanson who was putting a load of concrete in and walking about in it without wellies ended up having his lower legs amputarted.Felix wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2024 9:31 pmGot a mate a few years back was doing labouring for a guy cash in hand. Its a caustic burn, partly dangerous because you don't feel it so much.
Some concretes are worse for it as (generally the stronger types used in shuttering walls and structural elements instead of just poured overground slabs) and yeah, Ive had concrete on my hands and been fine Lalala.
Wash it off as son as you can, it can properly fuck you up. Wear gloves.
Edit: oh and wear safety specs when your splattering it out (like out of a concrete pump) asyou don't want it in yer eyes either.
