It’s damned cold here innit ?!!

Post by Noggin »

When did the uk get so bloody cold at this time of year?!!

I’ve been here a week and feel like I’ve been cold the whole time!!

Part of the issue is that no one seems to have their hearing on. Is there a cut off date for using the heating?? Or is it just too expensive?

Ok, I didn’t pack the right clothes for cold weather, but it’s end of March/early April, I didn’t think I’d need thermals

I’m gonna be glad to get back to the ski resort, it’ll feel warmer!!!

Last year the thermal lining never came out of my jacket, though I didn't use heated gear all year. The cold doesn't bother me as much as the endless rain.

Since Brexit we've been able to go back to having proper seasons, no more EU harmonised nonsense.

It's the Brexit I voted for.

Still shorts and sandals weather (admittedly with socks).

I feel left out. I can't play this game.

If I lived in Scotland I could complain

I've hardly had my heating on this winter as it's not been cold, just very miserable, dark, and damp. The outside temp on the south coast has remained in double figures most of the time with the inside temp being around 15c to 17c without using any heating.

For the last 10 years or so I've booked off the last week in March and gone away for a UK trip and this year, with some irony, was the first time I've ever been caught in snow. This was last Thursday near Tregaron, Wales when I rode to Woodhall Spa, Lincs. The first hour was snow, the second was sunshine, and the rest was rain.

My old neighbour was Norwegian. She claimed that despite the thermometer saying otherwise, the UK was the coldest place she'd ever lived. Reckoned it was a combination of cold, wind and permanent damp.

I'm inclined to agree.

Yeah, there's a big difference between a lovely cold, crisp day and the cold, wind and rain. That stuff gets in your bones man.

It's being so cheerful as keeps me going.

F4/5 from the NEbE but dry and slightly overcast, 7 okta. I don't what temperature it is outside but it's about 23 °C inside courtesy of some old fence posts and the remains of a 5 bar gate.

Yeah that's what does it, months of what can only be collectively described as miserable conditions.
I genuinely think it's why us Brits have a reputation as moaners, you wake up, look outside and see grey and miserable skies and moan about the weather

Yup - unremitting dreariness for months on end can't help but have an affect on people.

Whenever I've lived in warm places I've found that if you're feeling down, you can take a book outside and sit in the sun for an hour, and 99 times out of 100 you'll be feeling a lot better for it.
Fully agree.

I used to "not mind" the UK in winter*, but having spent over 12 months in a nice warm sunny country (France) I think I've lost my tolerance for dreariness completely.

* well - what passes for winter here, it's just damp chilliness, not proper winter.

Welcome to Ireland. I've spent a lot more time here with elderly parents than I'd have hoped for. The end is in sight though. Back to Spain this weekend then if I can get away with it, one more trip back here.

TBF we’ve had some cold damp weather at home but not for 10 days in a row!!

But over here I don’t think I’ve actually been warm since Tuesday afternoon - and I’m know back home for not feeling the cold 🤣🤣

Ok. I didn’t realise how cold it would be and I haven’t got properly warm clothes with me, but what I’ve been wearing I’d happily wear in resort and not expect to be cold!!

I’m so happy I’m just visiting 🤣🤣🤣

You have been staying on the wrong sort of boat.

It's not the cold you're feeling, it's the damp. A major problem in the UK is the damp air, even when it's not raining, it's still grey and damp for about 9 months a year !
