Re: Hotlist coldsist
Sorry, no figs, but hottest was probably Death Valley in the USA. Coldest feeling was probably Amsterdam in winter, although Alaska might have the edge, particularly floating about in a rubber boat surrounded by bits that had fallen off a glacier.

Hottest would have been somewhere in the Middle East, coldest was in Tignes one winter.

Hottest, Texas
Coldest, UK
Actual temperatures, feck knows, the only reason I look at the temperatures on the telly weather forecast is to be sure they can be read consecutively, and if they can't I get the hump.

Re: Hotlist coldsist
Hottest: France (on several occasions) 42 deg C. Yeah I know, it's not really that hot.
Coldest: UK, early 1980s when my nose hairs froze and the windows had pretty ice patterns on the inside.

There is no cloud, just somebody else's computer.
Re: Hotlist coldsist
Hottest: mine is also the Oz outback, 46°C was the highest I saw indicated. Morocco and Abu Dhabi were pretty hot too, but didn't feel worse.
Coldest Maybe Iceland, though no actual degrees have stuck in my mind, or p'raps here in the UK - I remember driving to work at -9°C on one occasion...

Bonneville Salt Flats 2011 and 12. Whatever heat was coming down was bouncing back up at ya' for a double dose.
Austria February 1981/2/3. Camping on 6 foot of snow. It wasn't funny the first year so went back twice more to be sure.

Coldest: Calgary, Alberta -30°C (Standing waiting for a hotel pick-up, thought it was a bit nippy. Eventually thought my bones were getting cold. It kind of sinks in to you after a while).
Hottest: Dunno. Could be Israel, Penang or even Turkey. TBH its usually humidity that gets me more than just heat.

Re: Hotlist coldsist
Hottest is driving between San Francisco and LA, it was 105F, which is what....40.5°C. I've just realised the mad thing though, the second hottest was here in Milton Keynes! It hit 40°C two summers ago.
Coldest is fairly tame, about -25°C in Colorado.
I've done -75°C in a test chamber. That's beyond cold, so cold it becomes a different sensation.

Re: Hotlist coldsist
Hottest - 50°C+ in Bahrein and Oman and we've apparently had 50°C here in the village. Certainly been that hot in Marmaris.
Coldest - Summit of Mt Ararat. Thick cloud, wind howling and visibility about 5 metres. On the way down I said to the guide "That was very cold maybe -30°C?" (I'd measured -26°C in Germany and my radio ops on the top of a hill had measured -32°C).
He laughed and said it was easily -40°C with the wind chill.
By comparison it was a pleasant -20°C on the Thorung La pass in Nepal

Re: Hotlist coldsist
42.5 in Sardinia. It was lovely, nice little breeze coming off the sea, made it more than bearable and we didnt even know it was that hot until we saw the temperature on a pharmacy sign. Heat I love, cold i hate and have only seen it as cold as it gets in the south east of England. Its extremely unlikely I'll ever put myself in a situation where its colder. I actually turned down a free skiing holiday, well I had to pay for the admin fee to change my name on the tickets, but I didnt go as there is no way would I ever endure snow out of choice!

Re: Hotlist coldsist
I went to Lanzerotte. A resident had assured me temperature would be mid 20s, with wall to wall sunshine.
It was cold, wet and windy. I didn't get a refund, I got some bullshit about being the worst weather for 20 years.

To be fair, I was working there for 6 days, so being paid. I say 'days', most of it was actually at night or very early mornings.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2024 9:06 amI went to Lanzerotte. A resident had assured me temperature would be mid 20s, with wall to wall sunshine.
