There's a decent pub round the corner, too. And plenty of horrific ones though...

I didn't say it was perfect. There was a similar place for sale in Cornwall last year.

Isn't the colloquial name for Stoke on Trent footy club 'the Potters'?

Is there something we should be told? :D

Or the holiday resort in Hopton-on-Sea where the indoor bowls competitions are held? Much more genteel than those ruffians playing/watching football. :D

That's a qualified denial. Are you the secret owner of any other football clubs or the public owner of S-o-T football club?

Tellingly no interior photos, so I doubt you're getting much more than a 100 years worth of low quality modernisation and diy. There's not much to work with.
Seems like some heavy lifting for what amounts to some faded signage in Stoke FFS.

Pretty much a total gut job, which is why it's only £25k. Admittedly the location sucks. The similar place in Cornwall was built right up the road, so when you stepped out the front door you stepped onto the actual road, no pavement.

This is the place that tickled my fancy in Biarritz (see below), roughly what it looked like when I saw it 6 or 7 years ago.

And now look at it!

There's an old garage just like that in LA that's now used for parking only. I think it's on Sunset Blvd. I'll try to find it on GE later.

Personally I'd rather have a totally unmodernised shell than one thats been done out.
Done up (even a little bit) gives too many wallys hope that they won't need to spraff loads of cash on it.

And how often can you buy anything for ~£25K these days? I'd like to think it'd help some young 'uns out, but I suspect it's more likely to go to a wannabe developer...

My father's family were all from the pottery towns and we had regular visits to Hanley, Longton, Burslem (and an area called Mere iirc) + trips to Trentham Gardens. The accent is very recognisable but he seemed to lose it when he joined the army and moved when he got demobbed. The place seemed OK back then.

Lots of family worked in the potteries and we had a fine collection of stuff like Wedgewood (all seconds probably :D ).

Quite fancied doing a pottery course but knew I wasn't going to buy a wheel or a kiln. Still fancy a go at throwing pots on a wheel though.

When I was a kid my parents had friends from Stoke (well they still have em) and I found it hilarious how they pronounced "book". Like it has about seven instances of 'o'.

I was reading something a while ago - can't remember where - about how Northern English accents are changing. Basically it's all becoming the exact "sort of generic Northern accent" iccy mentions.

Reasons are pretty much what you'd expect. More mobility and telecommunications means that people roam and talk over a wider area, thus distinct regional variations get watered down.

I, being a Southener, of course never had an accent to begin with ;)
