My wife wouldn't let me buy a Skoda. Because we're children of the 80's when Skoda jokes were common.

What do you call a Skoda with a sun roof?

A skip.

Etc...

I wouldn't want a road car again. I love the 4WD here. Can do and see so much more.

Why do Skodas have heated rear screens?

VAG interiors are flippin' dull tho'... and that's the bit you actually see/interact with when driving.

BMW/MB do interiors so much better. I quite like my Ovlov too.

I wouldn't be seen dead in a car without leather tailored dash and door tops.

Mate, I currently drive a 2002 VW T4 van and a 2005 Citroen Berlingo. The idea of recreating my living room in a car/van interior is completely alien to me. The CD player/radio on both vehicles are borked and I really don't GAF.

4 wheelers are expendable tools. They do a job or they don't. If they don't they get shit-canned and replaced. The only exception to this rule (and for the life of me I don't know why) is the Lancia Beta.

I like BMW interiors, though they're definitely quite austere. MBs are horrible. Chintzy and tacky, really quite nasty. Audi are the best middle ground I think, though not sure VW get the memo.

If you've got to sit in it for an extended period of time, you might as well enjoy it.

Yeah, the newer MB's with the fake dark wood effect trim and and all the colour changing light up bits are a bit naff, but my older R231 SL has a lovely interior.

The only extended drive I regularly do is to the south of France and back in the van. I normally have for company a cat who really doesn't want to be there and is hell-bent on escape. So classy furnishings are fairly low down on my list of priorities. I've focussed recently on reducing cabin noise by sound insulating all the metal work. That has improved my quality of life to a surprising degree.

To keep your hands warm when you’re pushing.

I thought you had a Duster. Isn't that a 'road car'?

I meant a proper 4WD car to explore in.

A £100k Range Rover is technically a road car

You took a bit of convincing but once you get into vans there's no going back.

Is that because they don't have rear windows?

If you have a van then you’re the sort of person that (obviously) needs one at least some of the time and then everything else afterwards gets compared to the van and rarely makes better sense.
So yeah, once you’ve had a van then you’re hooked.

I think that’s why I like my big 4x4s, they’ve got all the practical advantages of a van but staggering luxury and comfort as well.

I hear you. And like Potter says, it's also what I need as well as what I want.

My next one will be a lwb auto Transit.

We had a LWB Transit with a higher top at one point and IIRC it could be a pita sometimes for parking.

The LWB doesn't seem much on paper but it makes a welcome difference if you've got fixed kit in there, we had a baffled water container and jet-wash kit, plus spare wheel/tyre shelf at the front that took up permanent space.

I've had luxury cars, fast cars, old cars, French cars and the only thing I think I'd want again is my Transit. Possibly an old 2+2 convertible as a second car, something that can wake me up at legal speeds.
