Popped out on the bike for the first time this year 😎

I've been waiting for the roads to be dry enough that the bike doesn't get filthy, and today was that day (technically that day was also two weeks ago, but I was in bed with some flu-esque lurgy).

As I'm working my notice period, I'm feeling less dedicated, and more like a two-hour gap between meetings is mine to do with as I please 😇

There was a fair bit of traffic about, but it was nice to finally get out after the winter lay up 😎

Getting things sorted for my 2 day road trip to pick up the F350. Allegedly a 7 hour trip (each way) so stocked up on grog & vittles this morning at WallyWorld in a scene reminiscent of an 8yo let loose in a candy store with $100.

Back in the 1930's, one of my grandfathers sisters was married to a bloke who would knock her about a bit when he was drunk. She finally had enough & hit him in the face with a cold iron while he was passed out in an armchair.
Cured him of hitting her & he never drank again. Given that 8 of the 9 brothers were military, he probably faired better than if they'd got a hold of him. I met him around 1970 & my mum said "don't mention his face". I was about 10, never got the full story until after he had died. :)

Continued my laissez-faire approach to my notice period and spent some time out in the sunshine this afternoon adding bits and bobs to the KTM: crash bobbins; brake lever guard (in case of Pembrey or the like!); ram mount for my TomTom 😎

I also ran the wires for the TomTom, and am delighted to discover I don't have to faff about hunting for a switched live, because there are accessory connections - hurrah for modern bikes and ACC2! (Didn't actually connect it, as I need a couple of spade connectors, but will sort that out later this week).

Got all my packing done for the road trip & gassed up the ST. Leaving no later than 5am, which hopefully will put me on the 10 & headed East before most people are on their daily commute down the 15.
Last time I did a run like this I left LA at 9.30PM & had breakfast in Albuquerque NM about 10 hours later.

I love NM. On the way home drive past Albuquerque and get a cheap motel in Grants, a few beers at the Route 66 Junkyard Brewery is a worthwhile stop.

Maybe it looks better along the 10, I can't tell you what it looked like along the 40 as it was pretty much continuous billboards from one State line to the other. "New Mexico, Land Of Endless Fucking Billboards" doesn't have the same ring to it as "Land of Enchantment"

Driving past Albuquerque is the best thing you could have done. It's like mecca for meth addicts.

No idea, did NM by bicycle, north to south, off road. The towns I stopped at were all good, I liked Grants because it's so run down, derelict Route66. Go to other Route66 towns like Flagstaff and they're happening places, Grants not so much, the brewery is good though.

I've started today crying. I've been dreading this for about 2 weeks.

Today is 25 years since I lost my beautiful Joanne. Only 29 and a huge sad loss.
She lost the struggle and left lots of pain behind.
But nobody could ever forget her.
Life with her certainly was a huge roller coaster. I'm forever glad that I was on it.
I was a lucky boy as I was 10 years older

She was a pain in the arse, but she was MY pain in the arse

It's an old cliché, but time IS a great healer.
The pain never goes away, it just becomes bearable. (It's come back now though)

Redyed my hair - cos I'm going to a wedding in ten days and didn't want to look like a pink badger!!

Met a friend for coffee

Came home and made cake

Scary bit - I've just taken two online 'tests' that should enable me to do my bus/coach licence. BUT - they are the psycometric type tests - in French FFS!!!

So I've had to use some of the time allowed for translation, and this meant I missed two of the questions in the first test (one of them was counting boxes on a pallet FFS!) and I'm not remotely sure I got a couple of the 'mechanical' questions right (WTAF has working out which bridge is stronger got to do with taking a bus licence - surely it is a reasonable scenario that all the bridges I'm likely to drive on are ok and I have not seen anywhere on my routes that I'd have to choose between two on the same route ) and 'which block can you remove that will not cause the top plank to tip over'   Seriously??

Then there was the actual psyco test - which of these statements best describes you. So put the four in order of most to least. :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack:

I'm fully expecting the tests to come back with - do not let this bird near a vehicle with passengers

Oh well
Life is for living. Buy the shoes. Eat the cake. Ride the bikes. Just, ride the bikes!! :bblonde:

The Spanish have a machine with two handles to test reactions, a car on a screen keeps veering towards the kerb and you're supposed to keep it between the lines. At least that's what I think it's like, I've never seen one. The day I went to do the test the link to Trafico (traffic police) was down so the machine wouldn't work, bloke says "don't worry, you'd pass it anyway". I failed the hearing test so he said I needed a big mirror in the car. There's a reason why the Spanish are such excellent drivers.

Have been swanning about in a brand new Audi A3. Quite like it, 3.5 (whatever that means, it's not litres!) TDi. It's quite perky, flappy paddles too.

(My car is in for service and MoT. Got the obligatory,
- we've spotted this on the brake system and your tyres are legal but a bit old. £670 for the brake thing :( and £700+ for the tyres...oh yes, I'm certainly going to buy tyres from a dealer - not).
Doubt is not a pleasant condition.

Swearing at HMRC *

I "was" on self-assessment for 3 years, ending 21/22, filed and paid early each time, but closed my self-assessment account in May23, and received a confirmatory letter stating I didn't need to send any more filings, specifically including 22/23...

This morning I get a Statement showing all my payments (early, natch) from HRMC with an addendum demanding monies with menaces for failing to file a return for 22/23!

WTAF?

* not on the phone, good luck getting through their systems.... :wtf:
