Wossit worth
I need to face reality and get rid of this. This is my old trackbike that I shared with a mate. It was perfect (if a little old) until left with old petrol in it which caused it to run crap. My mate took the bike away to strip and clean the carbs and then left it for a lonnnng time at his Dad's. When his Dad passed he dropped it back with me but it needs putting back together. Whilst he left it the petrol pipe started leaking so he emptied the tank and it needs new fuel hoses etc. I've no reason to think it's suffering from anything other than the old fuel issue...well originally. It ran fine, left for 12 months and then it'd start, idle and rev fine but when on track went into fuel starvation mode so don't think it's cracked bores or whatever it is these suffer from. I have the V5 in my name. Plan had been to get it running and sell it but TBH I have the mechanical ability of a cack handed gibbon and lots of other things I want to do with my spare time currently.
So what's it worth as it? I'm guessing there is value in lots of bits of it, but then that involves breaking it which is back to my last point.
This is the bike. It needs TLC. This makes me sad as it was a really decent bike when my mate took it. I should have sold it then. I believe the engine was Tony Scott tuned from talking to EssexBladeRider when I bought it.
Full micron system which is pretty quiet we passed 98 db noise levels with this.
Brembo m/c and rearsets. On the other side it has a Q/S. It also has a steering damper
Big box of bits including spare clip ons, clutch plates, sprockets, OE fuel filler etc.
Spare chain (looked ok when I had a quick look)
Comes with loads of big spares including bottom faring, front mudguard, rear subframe and rear bodywork and spare wheels and discs.
Tank is challenged. The stomp grips gave up and removed paint on 1 side and on the other where it was a sticky mess my mate covered in black tape for handling. The tank is empty but a bit rusty inside I think. So that needs sorting or a new one.
Box of odds and sods including spare levers.
Another box with spare engine cases, rear brake disc, 1 gasket and presume templates for other gaskets
So, what's it worth? I'll stick up here/locally and then worse case Mrs ebay account with no reserve.
As I said it makes me sad which is why I kept it as it was the perfect trackbike for me. But reality is that I can no longer get it to tracks, it needs sorting and it's taking up room in my garage. I've cleared the garage out completely yesterday as we had some visitors (see rat thread in general). They haven't got at the R6, but I don't want them too and having clearer garage is better anyway.

Re: Wossit worth
At a guess, the fuel pump has died, not unusual on Yamahas that aren't run for ages, take it out of the tank and see if it's covered in brown gunge, if it is soak it in petrol for a week, it might fix it.
As for value, at least £1K, I could break that and get over £1K for parts from it, I'd like the front end out of it for my Kawasaki, but I can't be arsed to flog the rest of it on eBay, so it would end up with all the other bits in a shed.

I'll give you £25 for it, but I'm cutting my own throat.

I remember those red and blue brake line fittings, specifically how the corrosion would get between the stainless and aluminium parts, and force them open like a Facehugger going for an explore.

Someone would love that. It's a cheap way of getting into trackdays. Has to be worth around a bag of sand Shirly.

Re: Wossit worth
That would be the ideal. I'd love for someone to bring it back to life and use it like I did. I did 10 track days on it in the last year I used it. For my level - mid to sharp end of inters - it was perfect. Enough power to have fun, really good handling, great brakes. I'm genuinely miffed it's ended up like this. Didn't wanna fall out with my mate but should of forced the issue.
I tried to sit on it but fug me the pegs are high! @Taipan it'd be perfect for your raspberry knees
So consensus is around a grand. Ta.
So anyone want it? Forum discount as well.

Re: Wossit worth
Just as an aside, if you have a V5, get it mot'd and it will be worth 1500 minimum. My old gixxer6 went for 1700 with 12 months on it, 400 more than I paid for it!

Me too, I put 26k on one in 3 years. They've ALL got nikasil liner issues now a days, Supermofo should be paying me to take it away.

Re: Wossit worth
Right it's spring and I want the bike gone. So gonna try and sort out an ebay account and stick it up on there.
If a forum member wants it before I stick it up on ebay I'll let it go for £600 as would rather it went to a good home. Will update the classified.

Re: Wossit worth
Yeah it'll go for what it goes for on ebay, I'd hope at least close to a grand if not more. But be nice to go to someone on here who can give it a good home. Plus then not gotta worry about dealing with the public!Potter wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 3:37 pm Wow, that's a lot of bike for £600, the fuel starvation at the track might be as simple as a blocked tank breather, that's exactly what caused mine to do it.
I genuinely haven't got a clue, but surely you'd get no less than a full bag on an open eBay auction? That would be the easiest solution IMO, someone will turn up and take it away. I sold an old Fiesta like that, I thought I was going to have to pay to have it taken away and scrapped, but I put it on an open auction with a totally honest description and it went for way more than I thought it would
I should get it up and running and it'll be worth a lot more, but I'm lazy and have the mechanical skill of a baboon with 10 thumbs

Re: Wossit worth
£25 !!!!! That's ludicrous......it has to be worth at least £27,50....I can go to to £32.17/6d, but will need it delivered.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Mon Jul 24, 2023 11:57 am I'll give you £25 for it, but I'm cutting my own throat.

Re: Wossit worth
Well I'm hoping at £600 there's enough in it for Tricky to make a go of. The biggest problem is the bike was left for a good few years idle. So it was definitely old fuel in the carbs that took it off the track but I can't say for sure now. I have all the carbs (cleaned) etc but they need to go back on the bike and all put together and then hope it all works. If not or there's more issues I'm hoping Tricky (or someone else if he changes his mind) can sort it or at least make their money back flogging it on for spare etc. With ebay it's the gamble you take, but here I'd like to make enough for me to get a new shock for the GSXS, whilst allowing wiggle room for Tricky to use it as a cheap (hopefully) project. Plus if it stays in the family and Tricky sorts it I'd be over the moon. It was a great little trackbike and I'd love for it to be used again.
Worst case it goes on open auction as you say.

Re: Wossit worth
Well Tricky's just left with the R6. I did all the things you're not supposed to do when selling a bike, pointing out it's in pretty horrid condition etc and didn't mind sorting money until after he'd made sure the engine was all good and it was viable but the mad bugger was OK as was (hopefully, offer still stands ).
Having seen Tricky's other projects I'm really hoping he manages to sort it out and get it back on track. You can all look forward to some fairly gory pictures when he gets around to looking at it properly I'm sure. Weeksy might want to look away
Was nice to meet you @Tricky finally and hopefully you don't come to hate me! Good luck with it and the race on the weekend

Re: Wossit worth
Cheers Graham, - good to meet you too at last
As I mentioned, other stuff going on at the moment will take priority so it's likely to be a slow burner, but one way or another she will be brought back to life and scream again, and I'll try and do a thread as I go .
But if the old girl ends up being so fucked that I change my mind, well, I'll just set fire to it and film it instead
