Big surprise : Does anyone have Ducati where the remote key doesn't work.
Other than me?
It worked two weeks ago
It's not the fob battery
It will start with the black key held next to the antenna. It will start with the red key held next to the antenna
But both of the above mean removing the seat
The emergency PIN button is very flaky - sometime it will switch the dash on, sometimes it won't. Once working the PIN works
Any ideas, as I fear it is going to be expensive?
The battery charge is good , terminals are fixed on tight

Never owned a keyless bike, or understand much. But, this seems to suggest it's not uncommon. Not much in the way of fixes either, other than it happens.

I googled "ducati key fob not working" and got a load of hits including videos, so maybe trawling through there might bring something up

Not had a bike with that feature but when something similar happened on a car of mine it involved the repair place fitting a new unit (and fob thingies) in the car...which then had to go to a dealership to get it programmed. Cost me £1k to resolve the problem.

Not much help for you but I know someone with a mint Ducati Monster that one day decided it wouldn't power up.Long story short he ended up buying another set of clocks & some other parts, they got it running again & it was good for a while but then it repeated the fault.
So far it's been to a engine builder for one of the main BSB teams & two different Ducati shops.
I don't know what the Ducati shops tried but they both gave up on it...
He's now given up hope of getting it running again & is trying to talk his wife into letting him bring it into the house as a piece of art,it is mint.
He's so pissed of with it he's now bought a Kawasaki Z650RS

Chances are it is the key fob - it is going in for a service in 2 weeks time and I guess that is when they will relieve me of 400 GBP plus for the fob - unless it is an ECU issue.
The perils of owning a 13 year old Ducati - maybe its selling time

Yeah, I needed an ECU and new fobs. The killer was I hadn't used the physical key/door locks for so long the lock barrels had seized - so I now make a point of using them every now and again. It was quite an old car though.Mr Moofo wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 3:02 pmThat has made my day !Count Steer wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 7:07 am Not had a bike with that feature but when something similar happened on a car of mine it involved the repair place fitting a new unit (and fob thingies) in the car...which then had to go to a dealership to get it programmed. McSanta might make you a bad offer for parts.

Re: Big surprise : Does anyone have Ducati where the remote key doesn't work.
My Ducati was made well before this fancy remote locking nonsense, but has proved equally spendy, if over a longer period of time. Pre Covid I was intending to get it running again and then decide if I wanted to sell it or not. I dropped it into a very well regarded dealer in Sutton in Ashfield for a belt change and with instructions to 'get it running again'.
The belts were changed and the non-running issue was diagnosed but not fixed. Basically ethanol-laced fuel had turned anything in the tank that was once rubber into Play-dough and gummed up anything it came in contact with, like the fuel pump, fuel filter, hoses etc. I had the deep joy of sourcing (virtually unobtainable) spare parts for a 30 year old bike made in very small volumes and then cleaning out all traces of gunge.
I've replaced all the parts but for some reason can't find the will to put fuel in the tank and see if it will run...

Are the replaced parts the same material as the o/e stuff that went to play-doh?mangocrazy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 3:49 pm My Ducati was made well before this fancy remote locking nonsense, but has proved equally spendy, if over a longer period of time. Re: Big surprise : Does anyone have Ducati where the remote key doesn't work.
I'm not entirely sure about all the parts. Some of the replaced parts are ethanol tolerant (hoses etc.) but I can't vouch for the rubber fuel pump holder/sock. So when I do summon up the courage to put fuel in the tank I'll be draining it all out after use.Skub wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 5:17 pmAre the replaced parts the same material as the o/e stuff that went to play-doh?mangocrazy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 3:49 pm My Ducati was made well before this fancy remote locking nonsense, but has proved equally spendy, if over a longer period of time. In fairness, the old fuel had been in there for a few years so had enough time to wreak havoc. It won't get the same chance again.

To get 10% ethanol out, add 10% water, shake and leave to settle. The 80% on top will be ethanol free.

For the amount of miles I'm liable to do on it, I might just track down the fuel suppliers that rock up to a lot of Classic Bike track days, and order some genuine (but reassuringly expensive) dino-juice from them.

It was about £17.50 a gallon last time I looked....most garden machinery dealers have it. Can't remember the trade name though.

Esso Premium used to be ethanol free - I have used that in the old speed triple and mostly in the two other bikes (and deffo when they are left standing)

Shell V-Power was too, but AFAIK they no longer guarantee that.

I didn't know that - and the Shell garage is nearer !Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 10:25 am Shell V-Power was too, but AFAIK they no longer guarantee that.
