Macbook fanboi advice

Thinking of getting a MacBook Air M3 to replace my now aging Microsoft Surface.

Question - I have a Microsoft 365 account for Outlook, Word, Excel etc. Do I get the Mac version as part of my sub or do I have to buy again? Not clear on the 365 website.

Seriously though - are they shite or better than a similar priced Windoze lappy?
My Surface Book 2 has been pretty good, apart from the touchscreen failing about 3 days out of warranty and Microsoft not willing to help but is getting a bit flaky now and has the occasional blip.

Just my own experience but I much prefer MacOS over Windows these days. My first PC was one of the early Macintoshes, which I hated & used Windows from 3.1. Switched to MacOS around seven years ago & prefer just about everything about it.

There's a little bit of a learning curve switching over but I'd forgotten about it after a couple of weeks.

Only looked at the MacBook as my Surface Book 2 is circa 5 years old and getting a little tired.
As I have a Windoze desktop in my office at home I'll likely end up with another half-decent lightweight laptop for days out, thought I may want the MacBook but am having 2nd thoughts now.....

Because of my job, my dislike of Macs is based on monitoring and management in a corporate environment rather than end user experience.

I like my Mac cos it's over 8 years old and still working pretty well! It's a little tired sometimes, but it is fine. The Windows laptops I've had in the past needed loads of TLC to keep them going and died after a couple/few years. This one has had a 'guy' do some tlc once since I bought it (pretty sure it was 2015 and the TLC was 2 or 3 years ago) and I've been known to use the odd dodgy site that would have clogged up and killed an MS jobbie!! I should do a weekly back up and I always forget, so that is mostly what is now causing it's 'tiredness'!! LOL

I like Mac/Apple cos I can just use them. I have no interest in messing around in phones or laptops, I just want them to do what I ask. With the MS I regularly had to try and do stuff and as I'm not remotely techie, that was not ideal cos I was always guessing and rarely know what I was doing!!

One day I'll upgrade to a MacBookAir, but a bike is first and I need to sort some stuff in life before either!! LOL But I still love my Mac

But that's anecdotal nonsense, isn't it? I know (and have known) many hundreds of people who use their computers pretty hard, and are the ones that produce, design and build websites across the world, and 99% of them have used Macs. Same for the many people I know who do music and video production.

All these groups that we both know seem happy, so does anyone have to be wrong?

In the interest of fairness I should point out that none of the hardcore software types I know use Linux either.

If you can't do it in Excel with a horrific Macro you're probably a c*nt anyway

I don't know about now but the Mac version of Office wasn't the same as the Windows one and certain stuff didn't work, if you do anything even slightly complicated then check.
My work was going to give me a Mac until I checked it out and told them how much the different apps would cost for functionality I take for granted with Windows, one of them was just being able to resize windows and put them where I want.

Mac office didn't used to natively support odbc, which was a bit of a killer for reporting, things might have changed in the last few years. It's been a while since I was forced to use a Mac.

I spent quite some time with the fanboi IT team looking at ways to replicate the way I use Windows, whilst there is some capability to put apps where you want them it is limited compared to Windows.
