Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
European crane.
We are on the flight path for their migration, south in November, north feb/march.
They use our Manor for navigational readings, flocks of about 2-300 at a time swirling above us, do about 10 laps, work out which way is north and away they go!
Bloody noisy at times though!

We have cranes here all year round. But do get some birds only a month or 2 a year. On way to Africa

Well done.
I've lost track but I think it's 40 years for me later this month. I'd been working my way up to stopping the foolish habit on April Fool's Day but it got to about March 20th and I thought "Sod it, let's start (stop) right now". So I threw away what was left of my final pack of Benson & Hedges, and that was that.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
I almost gave up giving up, but it was almost bed time one night. Enough tobacco in my tin for a last rollup and happened to be the last filter. I turned to the wife and said this is my last cigarette. She laughed. Next morning when i got up i actually never wanted to smoke with my cup of tea and just took it from there. Never once thought about a sneaky one that no one would know about. Wife is still a smoker but at least she is about 90% vaping now and site in the kitchen with the window open when she does smoke.Saga Lout wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2024 2:44 amWell done.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
I stopped some time ago. The car park costs at the local hospital were the final straw.
(That and I'd probably exceeded the annual radiation dose from chest x-rays and the second CAT scan was done in the cancer ward....).

Had a neighbour just die from lung cancer. Went in to Hospital on the 27th Dec and gone by mid Feb. She was only early to mid 60's. I have lived here about 17 years and all that time her husband was forever moaning at her about the smoking.Count Steer wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2024 7:14 amI stopped some time ago. Fortunately the shadow on my lungs turned out to be an infection/blood and had cleared on the second CAT scan.Felix wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2024 8:43 amHad a neighbour just die from lung cancer. However, waking up choking on your own blood does focus the mind somewhat.

I once heard a CT scan described as "going for a spin in the cancer machine" Generally though they're looking for stuff which will kill you faster than the radiation.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
After a bit of a crash once, DRI did so many x-rays of my arm and jaw that I reached maximum dose before they could do my back/neck.
You'd have thought they might have done them first... So I didn't have to spend a night strapped to a bed with my neck restrained.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
I did ask about radiation dose limits and the chap laughed and said we just have to decide which will kill you first, the radiation or what we might be looking at.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2024 2:30 pm I once heard a CT scan described as "going for a spin in the cancer machine" Generally though they're looking for stuff which will kill you faster than the radiation.
I've spent a bit of time battling claustrophobia in the MRI tube in recent years too but that was looking at stuff like knee and spine. Sod's Law really, born in a hospital, visit to A&E after an RTA at 16 then only ever went again visiting the sick for years. Then, for a while I should have had my own parking space. (At least I could drive there and back rather than being neeenawwwed. ).

Top Tip if you ever have children in MK. Parking is half price for anyone on the maternity ward or visitors of same!Count Steer wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2024 2:45 pm Then, for a while I should have had my own parking space.
They told me that just as Mrs D was being discharged.

I find an erotic dance at the foot of the bed first thing in the morning, wearing just my socks and smile, is a sure-fire way to keep the spark alive.
