Any firestick experts on here?
My FS constantly gets a poor signal from the network.
Gets between 1.6 and 12Mbps when other stuff gets a solid 30+.
From what I've read, this is a 'thing' with FS.
I've turned it off, cleared the cache, dropped as much from the memory as possible, the vpn is set for small packet.
Any ideas?

Re: Any firestick experts on here?
5mbps is enough for HD video streaming, what's the problem?
Are you buffering, suffering from low definition?

Re: Any firestick experts on here?
Well I think the issue is one of distance from router.
Stood next to router I get 400mbps, at the sofa I get 120+ after re orientation of the router.
By the telly I get 30 ISH and the FS gets 20 at best.
I've seen WiFi repeaters, would these be any use to me?

Oddly, my Firestick seems to work fine . My FireTV refuses to let the Apple app work ( says the FireTV needs an update - and it doesn’t.
The firestick runs the apple app no problem at all!

Mine worked fine in the UK, when it was 6' from the router. At Chez SLG it's @ 50-60' and a substantial wall, hence the speed differences next to/sofa/TV.

Mine is working fine though a wall. It is slow to boot up to screens - but once in it is fineSadlonelygit wrote: ↑Thu Feb 29, 2024 4:42 pmMine worked fine in the UK, when it was 6' from the router. At Chez SLG it's @ 50-60' and a substantial wall, hence the speed differences next to/sofa/TV.

Funnily enough I have a Sony Bravia - but wireless is fine. The Fire TV is flaky.
I send three LG TVs back that wouldn't connect to the wifi

If its an older type of FS maybe try an upgrade to the newer 4K Max. Its priced at £69 at the minute. Just keep an eye out for Amazon deals and you can get it for more or less 1/2 price. Its got an upgraded Wi-Fi chip that may help with your connection speed.

And surprisingly, my TV is ............drumroll please...............a Sony bravia esn TV.
If we keep the utility room door open and turn off everything that uses wifi, then we get a reasonable throughput and I can watch Vienna Blood!

Re: Any firestick experts on here?
Well I've extended the ethernet cables so the router is now in the same room. I'm getting 300+ on the sofa and the FS is getting a steady 120+...........and it's buffering just as badly as before.
Guessing as Deftrap said, they're shit!

Re: Any firestick experts on here?
Strange, we’ve got three dotted around the house, 2 x newish HD models and an older one that I tend to lob in my briefcase when stuck in hotels overnight. Seamlessly linked to Holiday Inn free WiFi with limited buffering but needs hard wiring at home.
I’m half minded to buy a new TV and given the two smart tvs we have are slowly becoming outdated, the older 6-7 year old Samsung refuses to update any native apps and I suspect the 4-5 year old Sony will get there soon, I’d quite like to buy a really good dumb tv and simply buy a new stick every few years but I can’t seem to see any actual dumb tvs advertised anywhere.

Re: Any firestick experts on here?
The fire sticks I had (5+ years old, no idea of the 'generation#') were really slow refreshing screens in the gui. Connected by WiFi were fairly ok for YouTube and Netflix, but a bit rubbish for hooky streaming on Kodi etc (fair amount of buffering).
A fire cube has a way faster gui and with ethernet connection rarely throws a buffering wobbly.
Overall though Amazon devices aren't very impressive

I thought Kodi was always shit due to buffering no matter what it was on. Sign up to IPTV and use the provided Android app for the Firestick. I keep my TV hardwired but also use it in my Windows laptop using an Android Emulator and its been running flawless since signing up for a VPN. The Actual legit Firestick TV works flawless also and i only have 50 odd meg BB.
