Following two social media teasers and countless spy shot photographs, Husqvarna have finally confirmed that a larger, parallel-twin Svartpilen 801 naked bike is on the way for 2024.

There is not long to wait with the production model due to be shown to the world on Tuesday, March 19, and the firm previously hinting at its existence in two videos, which showed a prototype twin tackling both a flattrack oval and a frozen lake, complete with studded tyres.

The new model was officially confirmed by the brand on March 5, alongside a handful of details on the machine as well as these dynamic photographs. In addition, MCN grabbed an advanced sneak peek at the bike during the recent Svartpilen 401 and Vitpilen 401 press launch in Malaga.

“The all-new middleweight model has been engineered to deliver a powerful combination of performance, agility and contemporary style to take riding to even greater heights,” says a statement from the company.

“The versatility of the Svartpilen 801 is enhanced further by state-of-the-art electronic rider aids, including Easy Shift [an up/down quickshifter] for seamless gear changes, as standard.”

According to Husqvarna, the 801 will weigh a reasonable 181kg, however it’s unclear whether this figure includes fluids such as fuel. What’s more the bike is reported to produce around 103.6bhp, which is just a fraction more than the KTM 790 Duke’s claimed 103.3bhp.

The reason for this comparison is that the 801 is likely based on the Duke, with both operations belonging to the larger Pierer Mobility Group. The duo are no strangers to swapping hardware between bikes, with the smaller A2 compliant Svartpilen and Vitpilen 401 machines using the frame and engine from the KTM 390 Duke.

Following Husqvarna’s previous naming convention it stands to reason that it’s the 790’s twin cylinder lump lurking beneath – housed in the same overall steel frame using the engine as stressed member. The same lattice style blacked-out swingarm also looks to be in place, however the subframe appears slightly different, to help achieve that flattrack stance.

Away from the chassis, Husky state that there will be an advanced electronics package, alongside adjustable WP Apex suspension – a given with WP also belonging to the wider Pierer collective.

You'll be glad to know that Husqvarna tested it with spiked tyres on ice and also on a flat track... perfect for dealing with the UK's current pothole problem.

Since it's based on the 790, I believe that means it's also Chinese-built :)

IT’S NO SECRET that Husqvarna has had a twin-cylinder Svartpilen in the works, but now they’ve officially made it official. Get a load of the 2024 Husqvarna Svartpilen 801.

Husqvarna would have you believe that you’re looking at a prototype—but in OEM-speak, that just means the actual factory bike in disguise. This is likely the production-ready Husqvarna Svartpilen 801, plastered in sticker camo to make it look all prototype-y.

Technical details are slim, but there’s a lot that we can garner by filling in the blanks. It’s safe to assume that, like the Svartpilens that came before it, the Svartpilen 801 is based on a KTM, since the two companies exist under the same umbrella. It’s standard operating procedure within the Svartpilen model range to add 11 to the model designation of the KTM that has donated its frame and engine; in this case, the KTM 790 Duke

That’s confirmed by one of the few details that Husqvarna has confirmed for the Svartpilen 801—its output. The 105 hp produced by its parallel-twin mill matches the 790 Duke’s power, although the Svartpilen is a little heavier at 181 kilos [399 lbs]. That’s likely due to its unique bodywork and accouterments.

It’s also been confirmed that the Husqvarna Svartpilen 801 will come with a full suite of electronic rider aids, including a quick-shifter, but that’s all we know for sure. It also shares the 790 Duke’s WP suspension and open-lattice swingarm, while its bodywork follows the neo-retro flat track theme set by existing Svartpilen models.

Is it wrong to say that I like the look of that?

I noticed yesterday that CF Moto seem to have a similar more basic version of the same engined bike too. I think it was £7000. It wasn't KTM branded 790 engine, but every component was exactly the same. I expect it'd come without the tech that the KTM has, but i bet it'd be a fine thing to ride.

Looks like i could be quite nice, as far as can be seen with the pattern disruptive wrap. The tank area reminds me of the SM570 a bit.

When KTM moved up to the 890 platform, they licenced the older 790 design to CF Moto... then they relaunched the 790 using the Chinese built motor.
