That's a neat job. The Oxford type controller offends my eye.

I think factory heated grips are about 200 quid though,that in itself makes the Oxford controller less ugly!

They are the same grips I had on my first MT10- they're not integrated that the way some, for instance, KTM, Ducati, and Triumph ones are where you operate and/or monitor them through the dash or standard switchgear etc, but they are not as expensive either (think they were a ~£140 optional extra), and you could put them on any bike- they are current sensing so will auto switch off, and like Oxford etc ones, there is just a lead to the battery terminals
I thought they were neat, but TBH never really hot enough for me when I needed them, so on my next MT, I got Oxford ones and fabricated my own bracket for the controller to mount it up alongside the dash and make it look a bit more "factory" than it would have using the Oxford supplied one.

A relay and a bit of wire makes a nice little project.

I did it on my old Varadero after too many flat batteries.

I'm no sparky, but it's was pretty easy.

It's of course not compulsory to run it to the battery terminal, you could as Dodgy says, just wire them to a (switched or unswitched ) ACC live- all current bikes have them, means no faffing with installing relays and other wiring, etc but connecting those ones directly via the battery terminals makes them universal -means no crimping or soldering connectors, but either way, a piece of piss

The integrated Ducati ones on the Multi come in 3 settings...... 1) Thats really warm, 2) Holding a hot rock, 3) Fuck me thats molten lava

I have never used setting 3 even in sub zero temps and summer gloves

Did the flat battery happen when you trusted the smart tech to turn it off,or did you manually switch off the grips and it still flattened the battery?

That seems quite common with the Yamaha ones too. You trust them to shut off and they don't.

When I left them on

They're supposed to automatically turn off when the voltage drops below a certain threshold. If they did, the threshold was so low that there wasn't enough juice left to start the bike.

Deffo. My bike riding is often "ooooh there's nice weather and no meetings, i'm going out" I'd be gutted to find it doesn't work.

I bought some of the oxford performance sport ones.... still to fit mind.
