Model of helmet??
Help. I’m off to a bike show this morning. I guess there’s a slim possibility that there will be someone selling visors.
I’m taking the Arai as I am hoping to do a test ride and don’t want to carry the Shoei as well.
BUT I can’t find the model of the Shoei written on the helmet anywhere
I’m guessing the design will be by model so, crossing fingers here, anyone know what model this helmet is?
I have XR in my head but no idea if that’s correct!!!

Shoei XR1100 were made in 2009.... 15 years ago..

I was looking at Shoei Air GT 3 - but it’s not the new std.

There has been research done saying the 6 years life in nonsense.
Even the insides don’t decay as much as the manufacturers say - but then than is useful marketing.
Supposedly, on helmets more that 15 years old, stored out of sunlight , the shell strength does not deteriorate
I looked into this as I had a 16 yr old MTB full face. It worked absolutely fine when I needed it!

Well, one of the changes from -05 to -06 is rotational testing. In MTB world that's called MIPS, or one of the major players in the game is MIPS anyway but used by different suppliers. Yup. RUROC have strips of Rheon material in the Atlas 4. FWIW, SHARP was developed in 2007, first helmets tested in 2008.

It'd have to be one of the 'race' lids, I just don't like the look of / trust their fidlock system on the 'street' lids

2009 was the release date for the 'new' Shoei XR1100 helmet. It was superceded by the NXR in 2014, but leftover stock was still sold for at least a couple of years later. So I'd be reasonably optimistic of finding XR1100 visors still for sale.
I've got a couple of XR1100 helmets that I still use and the only part of the foam that falls apart/disintegrates is the easily removable part that sits on the top of the head. Remove that, vacuum out the helmet and replace with new foam of the same thickness and you're good to go. I really don't buy these scare stories about 10 year old helmets suddenly turning into death traps. If a helmet has been stored in a dry, cool, reasonably well ventilated area out of direct sunlight their lifespan should be comfortably more than 10 years.

*If* a helmet is looked after, stored carefully, etc etc and not showing signs of wear, then it probably isn't deteriorating as quickly as others.
But in the same way that helmets don't instantly evaporate when a certain timestamp expires, they don't magically newer levels of protection either.
And how it looks, or feeling sturdy, is not a particularly good guide of how well the helmet will absorb impact forces.
