Any tile experts?

What do you think the total height of a tile with adhesive is when the tile is 8.3mm thick?

I'm trying to set some cupboard heights before the floor is fitted (I'm only tiling up to the legs).

The plinth is 80mm and plastic and I don't want to have to trim it.

I'm thinking I need to add 12mm?

12mm should be ok,a 3 or 4 mm layer of adhesive is ample in most cases,if the floor is good and level. The coverage of most adhesive is based on that thickness.

It's not an answer to your question, but why are you only tiling up to the legs? Why not tile the whole floor? Aren't you fitting all new units anyway? If you were keeping the present units I could understand you doing that, but if it's new units do a proper job.

Cos I don't want to rip the whole thing out, wait for a tiler to do it all and then wait for it all to dry before fitting my units... and what's the point of tiling the bits you are never going to see?

Is that like not painting behind the wardrobes cos "that's the best place for them and they aren't ever going to be changed" ??

Tiling a large area is (comparatively) a piece of piss, especially if you go for the larger tiles. The time and faff is doing all the small cuts around the edges. If you tile under the cabinets the bits right by the wall can be left un-tiled, so you're probably actually saving time. Plus you don't need to second-guess yourself with the upstands and trying to figure out what the finished floor height will be.

I did the kitchen/dining room in France 5 or 6 years ago using 600 x 600 tiles in a room 12 metres x 5 metres (tapering down to 3 metres) and it took about a couple of days. Measuring and cutting all the tiles around the edges took a lot longer.
