Anybody watching the Budget?

Post by gremlin »

Furnished Holiday Lettings regime to be scrapped - well there go the best Airbnbs

New tax on vaping.

UK-focused ISA with greater allowance.

And actually worth a watch, just to see Laura Trott and Sunak cozying up (he's in the shit when he gets home, I reckon) and to see Angela Rayner squirming under Hunt's constant digs re her selling of an ex-council house.

£1m for a memorial to honour Muslims who fought for Britain during World War One and Two
Could that possibly be partly intended to embarrass the marching/ranting Islamists?

NI down 2p in the pound.

Productivity drive in public services. . Well intentioned and I support it, but it's like asking a leopard to get all stripey.

TBH I thought that is what they were meant to do as a matter of course. Obviously not. Well, I guess it is easy come, easy go.

Just to reinforce that...

Mrs. G does a lot of work in schools. She went to one recently and commented that at was really warm in the classroom with the heating on full-blast, yet all the windows were open, and joked they must be rich to have that luxury. The conversation ended with the head laughing and telling her, 'Don't worry, it's not our money!'

Speaks volumes.

Milton Friedman's fourth way of spending money:

4. Spending someone else’s money on someone else. For example, applying the proceeds of taxes or donations. There may be an indirect desire to see utility, but incentives for quality and cost management are often diminished.

It's been on the cards since more people started vaping and fewer continued smoking. Man's got bills to pay.

I know, it was a contributory factor to including vaping in the tobacco products directive way back in 2014, still doesn't make it right.

Probably done to wind up George Galloway, not that he needs much help.

I see he's put more tax on tobacco....to make sure vaping still looks cheaper....logical conclusion...in 2026 cigarettes will be £50 a packet, so a few ml of vape juice at £40 is 'cheap'.

(But it's to 'protect the children'....of course...)

Must have been a Local Authority school. At an Academy it would be 'his' money.

There is a Sikh Troops War Memorial, put up in 2022 in Leicester. The India Gate memorial in Delhi was built by the Brits for all the 74,000 Indian troops that died in WW1.

Buddhists? Not usually associated with fighting/killing so dunno.

However, this one may just be that our glorious leaders have realised something about voting numbers since the Rochdale by-election....
