Real-world problems are complex, and their solutions, if they exist, will be similarly complex, and may be counter intuitive. And often would be very unpopular.

The real problem is that no politicians are even interested in analysing problems and finding real solutions, they just want something that chimes with the electorate.

I felt betrayed by a rather important vote and I am aware that a lot of older generation people voted in the way that 'hurt' me (mentally rather than physically) - so they weren't voting with the options for their grandchildren in mind. It seemed purely selfish and based on history more than the future .

As it happens I do have a Masters and to the contrary I was indeed voting with the long-term interests the country and of my children and grandchildren in mind. To suggest that I was not doing so is patronising.

And Noggin wasn't being patronising, she was simply responding to SL. But because you didn't like the content of her response to SL you falsely labelled it as patronising.

You're gonna have more coppers, lower taxes, reduced NHS waiting times? Great. Sounds marvelous. I'd struggle to find a mainstream political party which doesn't aim for that.

But a whole generation of youth had no chance to choose - and they've lost an awful lot in terms of education agreements, research agreements, simple travel, ability to work abroad etc. I know it is of no importance to you, but do you think that maybe there is a whole generation (or two) of people that will be wanting to correct the latest decision by people that no longer needed to study/work/travel in the eu?

It wasn't a personal comment to you at all. But yes, I do believe that many of the older generation looked at the past with memories of what had been or could have been and voted in a way that currently has negatively impacted a LOT of friends/acquaintances/colleagues. Many of the children of my friends and of my immediate family have had the chance to study, work, travel (as I and others have been able to) taken away. And there is currently nothing to replace that.

My SDad voted to leave because "I was asked if I wanted to join the Common Market but no one asked me if I wanted to join the EU" - which is a rhetoric I have read on various online places I go and heard from others of a similar age.

His grandchildren wanted the ability to travel freely, move countries, study abroad in the simplicity that used to be possible. He didn't realise or, it didn't cross his mind, that they would have that option removed/made much more difficult. I'm not patronising my SDad by saying that - it's how I see it.

BUT - I've never insulted him or anyone else for the decision. I have said I don't understand and that I don't agree. But I would never be insulting about the decision. I can't say the same for many people (including people I've called friends IRL for most of my adult life). My opinion or the ability to voice that opinion is labelled all sorts of things and generally that I am stupid/uneducated.

If you have read my comments as insulting, then I apologise, but I have never written anything with an insult in mind or expected one to be taken.

However, this is the biggest issue with the written word - it can be taken in ways that were never intended.

All that confusion could have been sorted if only somebody just put a line under the number.
If I'm numbering timbers (at least single figures where there's the possibility of confusion) I'll put a horizontal line under a 6 or a 9.
Also I'll cross the 7's so nobody thinks it's an overdeveloped 1.
