Just watched a YT video by a guy I'd never heard of previously and (IMHO) he talks a lot of sense. Extra kudos for using a wooden kitchen spoon as a microphone holder and with an empty bookcase and pushbike behind him.

I can think of few things more nonsensical than taking a £20k 250kg Adventure bike genuinely off-road.

They're a look, a lifestyle, a style, a genre, a choice, 95% of them never go off road so no harm no foul, just the same as 95% of sports bikes never get raced on track, and 95 % of Land Rover Discoveries never go off road.

Did anyone actually genuinely believe the majority bought their adventure bikes to go off road? Only the hard of thinking, presumably.

All bikes are fucking stupid. If you start requiring a "good reason" to own one then few people would have one.

I only buy them because they fit me better than other styles of bike.

I'm more comfortable on a GS than an RT.

Bought my Himalayan to ride on the hundreds of kms of gravel and unpaved tracks that start metres from my front gates.
Would I have bought the Himalayan had I still lived in the UK? Highly unlikely, as the roads where I lived were more suited to sportsbikes.

And as I discovered in Croatia, RC8's are shite off road. As the Himalayan would be on the track.

I didn't really take his PoV as being 'don't buy one, they're shit', more a case of there are much better bikes to buy if you want a genuine off-roader, which is hardly a revolutionary thought. I took the thrust of his argument to be that the manufacturers are selling a dream or vision that is manifestly untrue. But then that's the nature of advertising - it preys on aspirations, not facts. Sports bikes are sold on the basis that they'll unleash your inner VR46 - an even bigger con if truth be told.

Ironically he has a singlespeed/fixie behind him.

Which is equally as much as a fad as adventure motorcycles.

Anyway I've had my GS off road, no it doesn't have the capability even a DT125R, but it can do it, it's fantastic to ride and my only regret was not borrowing the cash to buy one 25 years ago.

Me too and it brought me out in a rash, let alone scratching an itch. Not to disrespect those who like them, I'd never have another. But the OP is about adventure bikes and as a short arse, relatively speaking, I wouldn't want one of these either.

I think the adventure style boom was helped by the lack of decent looking sports tourers. However, I reckon this is changing with bikes like Suzukis gsxs gt.

It'll be mildly interesting to compare Suzuki sales between the gt and the gx.

All bikes over 30bhp are a scam. The fastest speed limit in the UK is 70mph, a 30bhp bike should manage that.
