I worked a temp job at a machine shop South of Cambridge where they had a punch press that could turn 4x8ft of sheet metal into slugs the same size as the old £1 coins. They'd fill a steel drum with them which took about a month to empty via the pockets of the employees who used vending machines for cigs etc.Count Steer wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 6:40 pm I'd been using some £1 coins under the feet of a mantel clock 🕰 that I've been farpling around with. Realised that they're the old style (ie the ones that spawned an industry of fake ones). Took 'em to the bank and asked if they still changed them. Yup.
The machine was normally used to make flat washers.
