I remember my grandad giving all us cousins (17) a Churchill crown for Xmas in mid 60s.
Would have cost him a fortune, relatively.

None of us remember what happened to them. Probably got chucked in a drawer and got forgotten about. Makes me a bit sad after his sacrifice.

I remember seeing farthings (with the robin on) but don't remember ever being able to spend them. Same with silver 3d coins.

Think i have them all apart from the big half crown. The old large penny i cant remember but a certain dated one was rare and worth a bit. If yours was a year older it may have been a queen Victoria one what has a few quid value but need to be in better nick than yours. I have notes and coin from all around the world dating back to early 1900. Not worth a fook. Old east German notes. Not worth a fook. I also have a few old Iraqi Dinar what a quite large compared to other notes.

Farthings had a wren, not a robin. Mined ewe, I'm too young to remember actually spending one as well, they stopped being legal tender in 1961,

You are quite right. I thought for years it was a robin but looking again, my bird identification skills must have improved 'cos it's obvs NOT a robin.

I've got a bag full of old coinage somewhere. It's not worth anything much but I wondered if any charities wanted stuff like that. Don't really want to chuck it in the bin/skip.

Not sure when the switch took place, but 'coppers' are not copper, but steel blanks with a flashing of copper on the outside. It got to the point that the metal in the coin was worth more than the face value of the coin...

About 1990 or so.
They even sound different when you toss em.
The copper has more of a ring to it.

I'd been using some £1 coins under the feet of a mantel clock 🕰 that I've been farpling around with. Realised that they're the old style (ie the ones that spawned an industry of fake ones). Took 'em to the bank and asked if they still changed them. Yup.
