Just Googled various frequencies, sirens, seagulls, etc. [Often thought that sirens ought to be based around babies crying and seagulls]The Spin Doctor wrote: ↑Thu Feb 22, 2024 11:25 pmI think it's the frequency of a crying baby...Sadlonelygit wrote: ↑Thu Feb 22, 2024 6:31 pm 2t run at 8kHz, which coincidentally is just the frequency that humans find most annoying.
Interesting fact about babies: their crying has an ultrasound component which triggers production of breast milk!

A girl I knew would literally start leaking if you even talked about her baby being hungry. Strange shit indeed.Horse wrote: ↑Fri Feb 23, 2024 8:45 amJust Googled various frequencies, sirens, seagulls, etc.

It is no longer a cheap form of performance travel. I am stunned how motorcycles have increased in price in recent years

An MT10 isn't a 'cooking' bike. It's got essentially the same engine and IMU as the R1... And in what universe is £19k for a bike 'not a lot really'?

3 of our lads have V4S Panigales. I don't consider 20 grand a lot. It's not dead money.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2024 7:03 pmAn MT10 isn't a 'cooking' bike. It's got essentially the same engine and IMU as the R1... And in what universe is £19k for a bike 'not a lot really'?
I was gonna spend 20k on my Suzuki. But thankfully they had a mega sale.
And you can't compare the MT10 to a proper Superbike.

Re: No more R1
We clearly move in different circles. V4S Panigales are playthings for rich kids who need to have the 'fastest and the best'. If you can afford it, why not? But they're out of reach of all but the most well-heeled. I coudn't countenance spending £20k on a bike; I'd have trouble justifying to myself on spending half that amount on a bike.Yorick wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2024 7:07 pm3 of our lads have V4S Panigales. And the point is that you can compare the MT10 and an R1. Under the skin they share an awful lot of components, despite looking very different.

Re: No more R1
R1s were 8 or 9 grand ish when first launched right? That's about 15k or maybe a smidge more in 2024 money.
The rest is price creep and all them 'tronics
Everyone still expects bikes to cost 90s money
It's not just bikes though. Look how much a Ford Fiesta costs (or rather, did cost until they binned it off recently).

A sportsbike without a fairing is like a car with no windscreen.
I doubt if you'll see many MT10s and suchlike in the hands of fast boys at a trackday.

Re: No more R1
I'm not saying the MT10 is a sportsbike; I'm saying it's giving 90% of what an R1 gives in terms of performance and fun for not much more than 50% of the price. Sportsbikes are pricing themselves out of the market and unfortunately dragging prices of everything else up as well.Yorick wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2024 8:20 pmBut the MT10 is not a sportsbike.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2024 7:56 pmWe clearly move in different circles. Re: No more R1
The council spec V4 Multistrada is £17k, with all the bells and whistles it's £32k.
Base model R1300GS is £16k.
Not that I'd pay the asking price for an R1 or even a Multistrada.
Bikes just aint as popular as they used to be, someone has to pay the R&D for the latest and greatest model.

Re: No more R1
The £20k doesn't matter as much these days, since folk seem to pcp the deal anyway. All you need to do is afford the monthly payments.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2024 8:51 pm I'm not saying the MT10 is a sportsbike; I'm saying it's giving 90% of what an R1 gives in terms of performance and fun for not much more than 50% of the price.
