Two more motorcyclists now
Younger spawn and partner both passed their tests today. Riding MT07s I think, that means a full unrestricted licence IIRC.
Which is nice.

No, both are in Exeter but took their tests in the 'Nam. That's Cheltenham. Partner is from there.
'Tis very pleasing to me.

The UK weather probably plays it's part in that too.Potter wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 6:08 am Congrats to your two.
My lad raced motocross from as soon as he was old enough, he rode all sorts of track bikes as a youth, then passed his test in Dubai, rode around on his own KTM390 and my bikes, then moved to the UK and they told him that because of his age (19) he could only have a 125 license, so he passed his car test and bought a sporty little hatchback car instead, rather than use a (very boring these days) 125 to get around on.
The UK policy of making it ever more difficult to ride a motorcycle has probably worked on him and he doesn't seem that keen to own one now.

Re: Two more motorcyclists now
2nd son and daughter both did their bike tests, son rides a lot (5PW R1), daughter had a GS500 which went everywhere but hasn’t got a bike now - small kids, busy work etc. No 1 son rode a Kaw 250 thing while he worked in Taiwan for several years, but was always a bit vague about licences! So that’s 2.5 out of 3 - a pass mark I think.

Depends on the power output of the machine at the time of test. It could be A2 restricted.
It'll be on the pass certificate!

Thanks, it's something I've not looked at as it doesn't concern me. I shall ask them

Re: Two more motorcyclists now
I was thinking the not particularly original thought a couple of days ago that motorcycling in this country, at least, is dying out. Leisure riders are an ageing breed. Commuting, at least in London, is less attractive due to road changes, 20 limits, theft and parking issues, than it was when I stopped c. 2017. And e-cycles and (illegal) e-scooters make for a cheaper and more practical alternative. Getting a licence is convoluted and expensive if you're under 24.

Re: Two more motorcyclists now
My daughter and stepsons were never interested in bikes in the slightest. And no point forcing them to like them.
Never had a wife or girlfriend that liked them either, nor did any object to me having them, which was great.
Lots of young bike riders over here-mostly 50 and 125cc two strokes, you can hear them in the town during the day, and at night they hang out in the town, just like I did at their age. Good on them.

Re: Two more motorcyclists now
Daughter fancied the idea of touring on a bike, but the week-long DAS course put her off. She has learned to surf, ski, snowboard, kayak and rollerskate in less time than that. The only activity thar needed a whole week (and cost as much) was a PADI open water diving course, and at least she had a week in the Red Sea to go with it.
My introduction to biking was nil, I could ride a push bike so I rode a motorbike, it's not that different.

Re: Two more motorcyclists now
A combination of my finally remembering to ask and remembering to post on here confirms that they both have full licences. Any bike, any where, any time.
