I guess it just backs up the fact that no one buys sports bikes anymore. Which then asks the question if MotoGP and WSBK are relevant anymore if everyone is buying shopping bikes and big nakeds?

It's a bit of a puzzler because Euro5+ isn't any tougher in terms of emissions, which is what killed off many of the previous generation of machines - in fact as I understand it, it keeps the current emission limits which I assume has been where all the hard work has been put it.

If I had to guess, it would be the fact that the update brings in a requirement for longer-term effectiveness of the catalytic converter. It seems the Euro5 allowed for a simple mathematical estimate of the durability of the cat, but Euro 5+ seems to require an actual test to see if it remains efficient long term.

The other possibility may be that they don't think the bike will meet new reduced noise limits.

My GSXR1000 with standard pipe is much quieter than my ring-a-ding-ding GasGas 300 :obscene-birdiedoublered:

The R1 I had was one of the first in the UK, R998RRT, mostly because the bloke who owned it before worked for a Yamaha dealers.

Already there.

There are hardly any proper 'tourers' now. Honda have the Wing, BMW the twin RT and 6cyl LT.

Everything else is styled to look like an adventure bike. Even the GTX-GT has the 'pointy' styling.
Even bland can be a type of character :wave:

Looking on howmanyleft.com - may or may not be correct - last year saw 23 R1-Ms and 3 R1s newly registered in the UK - it's not Euro5+ killing them off.

Are you sure?
2t run at 8kHz, which coincidentally is just the frequency that humans find most annoying.
4t tend to be more bass-y and with 4 cylinders to smooth the pulses out.
Be interesting to put a dB meter on them both.
