That's what the Jaguar CX-75 was going to have. These guys do them as replacements for "traditional" gen sets too. We used to make the carbon sleeves which allow a generator to run at 100,000rpm directly coupled to the turbine.

Why better idea, turbines are more efficient, simpler, quieter, smaller, lighter, also don't vibrate etc etc. They can also run on almost any liquid fuel.

Unless they are Italian ;)

Yeah I heard it leave. And smelled it, several minutes later. :o. Sufficed to say it would not pass modern unburned hydrocarbon emissions tests.

Oh man, when I had my Z1 I so wanted one of those. I'd still take one,but there weren't many made and even less for sale. That was the best of the best in the 70s,a fast reliable Jap engine and a great handling Rickman chassis. 8-)

One of my brothers had one of them in the late nineties - he called in on it very, very early one summer Sunday morning, so I had a go, obviously. Spent half an hour riding around a deserted West End of London. I've very clear memories of riding down the mall down to Buck House and up to hyde park corner.

It was great fun, really enjoyed it.

1. Fit decent tyres
2. Learn conservation of momentum (ie don't slow down*)

* They had a reputation for awful braking. But that was due to rubbish tyres (Pneumants) so most riders barely used the brakes, so the shoes glaze.
