There never was "an offer on the negotiating table ... just about the return of the hostages". As you can see below, there was indeed a great deal "more to it than that".

That's why they call it 'negotiating a deal'. (I never suggested that the deal was 'just' about return of the hostages, but at the end of the deal they'd be home and the IDF would be off Palestinian soil...possibly).

I’m sure I heard someone say it’s about the removal of the Israeli nation from their land.
If they did they clearly haven't been paying attention to recent events.

Given that raison d'existence of Hamas is the destruction of the state of Israel and Israel will do everything it can to prevent that happening, where do you both see a possible resolution of this conflict? I don't see one.

I think that Netanyahu is perfectly happy to reduce the entirety of Gaza to rubble and will continue to do so until someone stops him.

He sees the Palestinians the same way Hitler saw the Jews. Like parasites to be eradicated. It's way beyond any military op now, it's way beyond revenge, he just wants to remove Gaza from the planet and will use any means short of NBC weapons to do so.

No, I reckon you’re wrong about that.

I’m sorry that your favourite side started a war, while being unable to prosecute a war.

Exactly this. Netanyahu has explicitly said that. He wants Palestinians entirely removed from Gaza and wants it under total Israeli control.

I can certainly see it possibly being under Israeli control.

Israel will hope that they’ll be less effective ones.

I don't have a "favourite" side. It doesn't affect me one bit.

People having "favourite sides" has kept the shit here going for years.

I hope they all live together in peace, but I rather doubt it. Israel controls the West Bank, but it doesn't do anything to stop hard-line Jewish settlers turfing Palestinians off their land.

Rather more than 'turfing them of their land'.

'As of the end of January, 370 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank, 94 of them children, since the 7 October attack on Israel, according to the UN.'

There are reports also of some of these 'settlers' being accompanied by soldiers in IDF uniform and destroying houses and crops making areas uninhabitable...by Palestinians.

370? That's out by a factor of at least 50, if all the reports I've read are true.

Both sides are wrong. The difference is that one of those sides is a terrorist organisation who killed 1000 people, the other thinks it is a civilised country and has killed 25000 and counting. Now which of those wrongs is most wrong?

25,000 was passed at least two weeks ago. The 100,000 number is now being thrown around in some circles... & owing to the demographic of Gaza, half that number are kids.
