Friday thread... the aftermath of Valentines..

Post by weeksy »

Some of you may be romancing tonight ! but based upon last weeks thread, i doubt it :D

Anyway.
Fri. Mrs Weeksy and the boy are off out in London buying vinyl. I'm WFH and still recovering from lurgy, last night was the first night in 2 weeks i've not woken the house up with coughing
Sat. Practice day for the lad at Stile Cop, no possible way i'll be doing anything more than just driving him.
Sun. Race day... again very little other than spannering for me this week.

The unusual bit of the week is a lecture/presentation on 'medieval clothing'. (It's only an hour or so long). That probably means a nice drive, breakfast at Cowdray Park, lunch somewhere and a nip in/nip out visit to my usual 'gents outfitters'....end of winter sale, up to 40% off stuff like Viyella shirts, but will probably end up with a couple of pairs of socks

If the weather stays perked up will probably spring clean the cabin ready for the chaps to come and paint the outside/do a bit of exterior maintenance on it. Currently the resident deer (and mate!) is mooching around it...must be the sunshine that attracts him (and her).

PS turns out it's someone chopping logs in the woodland that has caused them to seek sanctuary in the Steer wildlife park. Got a temporarily resident badger digging up the beds/making a badger latrine now too. Probably a solitary male kicked out of the sett while Mrs Badger produces the next generation.
Doubt is not a pleasant condition.
But certainty is an absurd one

I'll have grandspawn for the weekend as the island spawn is away to the big island. Stuff will be done.

Friday, sleeping off a bad night shift, housework.
Sat/Sun my Mother is visiting, haven’t seen her since August. Will take Step Dad to the Longman brewery shop and nearby pub whilst Mrs M and Mother have a ladies pampering day.
Monday……week off!

"Especially the lies."

Today, drinking coffee then going to work. Probably have to go to the valley to get the correct vehicle for me to drive this weekend! Then an early night cos,

Tomorrow - gonna be a bastard day as not only is it one of the busiest Saturdays on the roads in the season, but the rail peeps declared a strike from today for four days. Bastards!!

Sunday. Not quite as bad as Saturday but similar. And will definitely be long ☹️

Monday. Work at 7am but hopefully no driving 🤞🏻

Out for a dog walk and bit of a pub lunch this afternoon. Been told to drink plenty of fluids, so a couple of pints is what the doctor ordered, right?

Sister and her fiancee are round for dinner tomorrow night. They're getting married in June. She seems happy and he's a nice bloke. Her previous husband died of pancreatic cancer a few years back.

Out with friends and their daughter and son-in-law for Sunday lunch to celebrate their soon to be hatched baby.
All aboard the Peckham Pigeon! All aboard!

Yet to spin it up on the Technics - but that might be tonight.
Tonight - feeding my sister (who, whilst have lived in Brighton since 1977, owed a flat here, never feeds us!)
Rest of the weekend - if the mild weather stays with us, some playing about on MTB and motorbikes. I need to see if the ugly screen spoiler works!

Got Martian and his mate coming over tonight. Gonna show off the new carpets and spin some tunes.

Sat - Nothing. Edibles and the new Grand Tour with some nice home cooked food.

Sun - Housework. Cooking Roast Chicken for the parents. Clean car maybe. Quiet night in studio ready for a mad monday as i have installed a new server this week at quite a large school and only about 15 teachers came to with their laptops on the 2 days given, so they will be expecting me to see them all on monday, wish me luck...;)

Today:
Woke up in Bournemouth, which made a nice change! Quick mooch along the beach and pier before heading inland to a client to do some work, travelled back home on the train this afternoon, took the dog out when I got home because it was still actual daylight. ☀️
Now parked on the settee with a glass of wine, reviewing the paperwork for my new job offer 😎, and will probably finish rewatching Band of Brothers tonight.

Tomorrow:
I'll be making Muz chainsaw some overgrown hedge/trees, and then probably doing a bit of garden tidying.

Going to see the local Finds Liaison Officer in the afternoon because Muz has taken up metal detecting and found some interesting stuff that you legally have to declare 😱

I need to plumb in a sink in the workshop too at some point...

Weather/road wetness depending, might nip out on the bike. This may well mean nothing else gets done 😎

Sunday:
Repeat of whatever didn't happen on Saturday, plus pack for next week's work trip to Malta.

Yesterday, work, Chinese takeaway (salt & pepper chicken, salt & pepper chips, Singapore chow mien)

Today, Mrs and the dog have headed to Devon for a long weekend, I’ve pottered around which involved knocking up some screed to raise the base of the hearth to accept a new log burner.

The first mix of screed was only enough to for screed bars around the edges as the hearth within the fireplace was much lower than the marble hearth in the room than I remembered. New batch involved adding equal volumes of sharp sand and sub 10mm gravel with the last of the bag of cement i had plus an equal amount of one coat render mix.

Anyway it mixed well and I got they job done and had more than enough to repair a broken step (cracked section of 2” thick flagstone was removed and I added several holes, plugs and screws to secure the concrete mix). Trip to the tip to drop off two bags of out of date plaster, the remnants of the concrete and a load of cardboard. Left over chow mien, 70§ dark chocolate and LBV port for dinner.

Tomorrow, skim over the edges of some plastering* I did last weekend with some easifill to smooth out the patch in the ceiling necessary to reconnect the outlet pipe** from the shower above, floor is tiled / aquaboarded around shower tray so easier to approach from below.

* Filling and sanding necessary as plaster (now in a skip) had gone off so was setting far quicker than it should…

** pipe could only have become loose due to effect of heating and cooling of external section (black pipe with too few clips, west facing magnolia wall) which edged it out of the tray trap fitting.
