Re: I've got a semi on
I don't think it looks bad - in white. Even the black one in the pic that isn't your bike looks ok/better for having a bit of detailing on. Wouldn't take much for a decent paint shop to make it look like it came out of the factory with it, particularly if they did the front mudguard (as ChrisW suggests) too.

If only they made bikes with fairings as standard?Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Sat Feb 10, 2024 11:53 pmTBH I tend to agree, but the bike is much nicer to ride with it on, it no longer feels like I'm clinging on at over 80, it makes the bike sensible for longer rides.

Re: I've got a semi on
I've resisted doing similar to my Zed. The reason I bought it was to make it more difficult to maintain 3 figures. I even took the Puig screen off again and went back to standard, looks better to me too.
The bikini fairing definitely suits the Homda aesthetically.

Re: I've got a semi on
Today I made a lower screen from clear perspex, it looked stupider than the one that's on there.
Been out for another ride with it on and it actually works really well.
I don't remember unfaired bikes being as windy in the 80s, but they all had huge clocks

I think the same,I'm sure the clocks deflect a lot of the wind.Maybe you could fit something around or just above the clocks?Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2024 1:36 pm

I'm tempted to try a set of LC clock cases around the digital display, I've got a cracked set somewhere, (I've got two sets of cracked YPVS kidney clock cases as well, I'm a bit of a hoarder)Bustaspoke wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2024 5:55 pmI think the same,I'm sure the clocks deflect a lot of the wind.Maybe you could fit something around or just above the clocks?Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2024 1:36 pm

That's true, also the fastest bike I had in the 80s was a tuned 350LC, it didn't have 140bhp, it probably had 60.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2024 5:57 pm Inflation innit.
An 80's mph is much slower than a modern mph.

Re: I've got a semi on
I'm similar. My screen helps 80mph cruising on the motorway but still makes 100 tough work.
I'd like to try a GSXS1000 GT as I think they look great and suspect I'm much more of a fanny top speed wise nowadays so a faring might be fine. But the cost to change to essentially the same bike means I won't anytime soon. They were about £4k more than I paid when they came out although I noticed they've dropped a fair bit recently.

You all know the national speed limit on the motorway is 70mph, which is the fastest you're legally allowed to go in the UK.

Never had one, but then I don't think the wind gets overly tiring until you're into triple digit speeds.Yorick wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2024 9:19 amIf only they made bikes with fairings as standard?Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Sat Feb 10, 2024 11:53 pmTBH I tend to agree, but the bike is much nicer to ride with it on, it no longer feels like I'm clinging on at over 80, it makes the bike sensible for longer rides.

Re: I've got a semi on
I didn't like the fared model of my bike but I'd defo be interested in the newer GT but they were £4k more than mine for essentially the same bike. I wouldn't want a sportsbike though as don't want clip ons. The GT has the same mandlebars as mine just with a nicer faring than before. I wouldn't say never to getting one, but with only 6k miles on mine I can't justify changing. Plus thinking about it TBH I think a faring would only be of small benefit to me as the vast majority of my riding is below 80mph and I quite like the wind in your face experience it makes it feel faster!Yorick wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2024 9:19 amIf only they made bikes with fairings as standard?Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Sat Feb 10, 2024 11:53 pmTBH I tend to agree, but the bike is much nicer to ride with it on, it no longer feels like I'm clinging on at over 80, it makes the bike sensible for longer rides.

Also the fairing may have made the bike less fun, so I might only put it on if I want to use the bike for a long ride, it takes 15 minutes to fit, so it's not a big deal.

Yeah, one of the reasons I went for the KTM Duke 690 was because it kinda forced me to have my fun at lower, less licence-threatening, speeds.

Re: I've got a semi on
I put a screen on my 690 and thought it looked hideous, which it did. Then I rode the bike and it was so much better for it, that the screen stayed on. I just stopped looking back when I'd parked it...Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Sat Feb 10, 2024 11:53 pmTBH I tend to agree, but the bike is much nicer to ride with it on, it no longer feels like I'm clinging on at over 80, it makes the bike sensible for longer rides. It's takes 15 minutes to remove so I'm not too bothered by the fact that it doesn't look good.
But it's definitely going to end up white, and I'll probably make a different lower screen for it.
