Epic day at FoD today with the boy and mates. Giving the Status a ride and full test. Was eye opening how fast and tech the boys can ride and really made me see how I need to get off my comfort trails more and onto harder stuff more often. I've peaked and need to refind that.

Bike was super and really at home on it. On the 'normal' trails it felt fab.

Enjoyed that and really happy on the bike, well, apart from lack of motor lol. In all seriousness though, it's an excellent thing for sure.

Spent the day at BPW on Sat with the boy/coach and Joebristol from STWforum. Whilst i couldn't quite match Joe (but i knew that in advance of going), i was absolutely ecstatic with the Status. It does everything i wanted and more.. Some of the poppy drops are way way easier, it floats over some of the jumps i used to be slightly worried by and makes the Roots all OK... well, maybe not all, Groot was still somewhat interesting as neither of us knew it and it was horrribly wet and rooty :D

But overall it was brilliant. I slowed the rebound a couple of clicks as the boy told me it was too fast, but in truth i'm not sure how I can gauge on BPW trails as i'm too busy trying to go fast and getting bounced about on things like Rim Dinger.. So concentrating on what the bouncers are doing, just isn't happening :D

overall, most happy :)

Well that was an outstanding day at Dyfi today. I'm massively loving the Status.

As I wasn't flying solo today I got to ride a different trail or two, so we did luvi Dyfi>super swooper followed by super swooper full, top bit is way techier than luvi Dyfi!

Then we did turns in the ferns, which was harrrrd on the techy slabby droopy steep bit, but managed it. Then back to luvi Dyfi and swooper and then got talked into El Hippo with the boy. Which again, hard in bits but managed it.

I've been off work most of the week with a throat full of razor blades and last few days I've got about 5kg of snot out! So it arguably was a terrible plan, but went better than I expected.

The boy spent a large chunk of the day riding with Trailrippers and Dan Atherton, hitting the full Oakley line and some metal jump that used to be used in Hardline. A lot of that down to Nathan and Dan giving him 'encouragement' 😁😁😁

I’m busy trying to get a Magic Mary onto a rim. I currently think riding down a black at Dyfi following an Atherton might be easier!

I am reaching out now for forum support as it is about to go in the bin. I have had to walk away from the man-shed before I destroy something

Man, that look bleak.

Any zombies around?

Is it as soggy as fuck - or is it just Sussex that had turned into Gloop Bog by the Sea?

After a day out on the Orbea today I threw the Shockwiz on the Status to get it set up. Only a quick bit of baseline setting for now. But it's all looking good.

Interestingly it reported kinda what i expected that the back end rebound was too quick. A couple of weeks ago a mate broke his G170 at FoD in race practice so i gave him my Status for the weekend to race on. I was SURE i had the rebound set to 4-5 on the dial, but when he handed it back it was on 10... I wasn't sure so i slowed it to 6-7 and felt better.... but Shockwiz reported too quick a rebound, so stuck it back to 4...

It seemed happier after that, although needs a bit more longer term testing of course to get it completely dialled.

Need to dial in the forks this week if viable with the crappy weather and get it ready for Dyfi this weekend and Ponty

Last time at Dyfi for quite a while potentially so i bought myself a new hoodie.

ImageIMG_20240401_212524 by Steve Weeks, on Flickr

It was a somewhat challenging day as the lads took me to "Race Track", double black diamond... Eeeeek.

I almost called it a day after the first 30m as i couldn't ride one massively steep insane section, but apart from that 10m and another 10m i managed to somehow get mostly down the rest of it.

Had a couple of lie-downs on the day, but techy slow ones rather than fast crashes, more like walking speed on slippery stuff..

That place is SO not a friendly place it's insane. The bike was great, the rider, mmmm not so much. I don't know how i'll find the next level of me, i want to go better, hit harder stuff, but i can't find the balls to get to the next step.. I'm getting better over time but it's a very very slow and slight incline, i want a LEAP of something... but how... heck i have no clue.

I can sympathise, there are sections of the DH tracks in Friston that I just look at and say "Nope". I won't entertain riding them as I'm already falling off in my head which is 90% of the battle.

"Especially the lies."

Yup. The Dynamics was amusing with some bits. The boy says "look, i can even ride it sitting down" and then does.

I was riding with a mates GF, Cindi, she races Enduro etc and is a great rider. She rode that one... but then the next bonkers section i rode and she never... the 3rd one i rode the slightly easier line and made it, she rode the harder one and stacked it big time... The last one, i rode and she never... It's weird though that she'd ride section 1 and i bottled it. As you say, it's all in the head, within seconds of seeing it i'd decided "nah, not happening"
