It's currently a Kickstarter due to start funding on Wednesday...Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2020 9:08 pm What do you reckon to this then...popped up in a banner ad.
Mechanical movement with smartwatch features added in. Uses a 'paperwhite' display like a kindle. I currently wear a 'real' watch on my left hand and a fitbit on my right, so something like this might suit better.

Yeah, saw that.
There are some nice looking brands doing the whole Kickstaryer thing...I think the Oak and Oscar stuff I linked a while back started like that.
There is of course some proper dross too

Re: The Official Watch Thread.
Touch off topic....but venture capital and the like has been a thing since forever hasn't it? I've worked for several companies - including the one I work for now - funded at least in part by what is essentially professional kickstarter. Getting ordinary people to stump up cash for hair brained schemes is also nothing new. Scottish colony in Panama anyone?
Sure, getting money from "the city" has a slightly more legitimate feel to it, but at its core it's the same idea.

A reasonable Miyota movement, not a massively popular one but a decent reputation.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2020 9:08 pm Mechanical movement with smartwatch features added in. Looks a bit big for me though.

You can buy an accurate (±30 sec/month) watch from a well-known manufacturer for less than £10. Why would anybody spend more?
"But I need it to be waterproof" you say.

Bling, I guess.
I just bought a G-Shock for £140.

I would. I've paid a lot more for them but always make a profit on them. I have a small sideline hobby buying and selling collectable G Shocks.

Re: The Official Watch Thread.
A few years ago I spotted a set of four wheels in the BMW dealer on Park Lane. £4,500, which was more than I paid for my first house.
Roll on a few years and now a watch costs more than I paid for my current house.
The world's gone mad.

Back when you bought your first house, there were watches around then that were more expensive.

Re: The Official Watch Thread.
Annoyingly my Datejust has stopped working. I tried a manual rewind but no joy, if I give it a gentle shake it starts and runs for about 5 secs. Of course lockdown means the AD isn't open so I'm going to have to wait, but it's my daily watch since I gave my Omega to my son and my only other watches are a (spit) TAG and some Danish dress watch (Skagen I think) so I'm currently sans-watch and hate it...

I bought my daughter a new one a couple of months ago and then I was reading on the internet that the new movements have had problems, something with the date part of the movement wearing a pin down and then seizing, but Rolex won't release any statement or do a recall.
It's a bit annoying on a watch costing five figures plus.

I was about to say yes, when I realise that it's actually 5 years old now....to be fair I should have had it serviced in that time but honestly thought it was still relatively new

Re: The Official Watch Thread.
That might be the 'new' movement, I'm not sure when they started using it. I'm not very knowledgeable on the DJ.
Five years isn't long for a watch movement.
Anyway, I've seen a few complaints, Rolex don't argue and they've been sorting it, but they won't release any info about it.
