(Football) Replacing Klopp...

Post by Count Steer »

Blimey, that came out of the blue yesterday. Who on earth are Liverpool going to replace Kloppy with? He fitted the job like a glove.

Is Xabi Alonso in the same class?

PS It says 'football' in the thread title so no need to announce that you don't like football/don't care - you didn't HAVE to read it.

There's a question. Alonso is doing wonders but is fairly inexperienced, however he was always a clever clever lad, I'd put him top of my wish list.
Next after that I'd be going De Zerbi of Brighton.

If the coaching team were staying that'd give some continuity while Alonso finds his feet, but they're going too...which if Klopp hasn't got another job lined up, I find a bit weird tbh.

Whoever gets it does get a very good and very young team, which will help massively of course.

Yep. People will be queuing up for the job but the shrewd top guys might think 'Hmm, how do I follow that? Scope for a bit of reputation damage there'. However, most of 'em don't seem short of confidence/ego. :D

M is a Liverpool supporter and was shocked at the news.

I have no idea who'll get the job at Anfield but I reckon that this time next year Klopp will be in charge of the German national team.

Germany only appointed Nagelsmann in Sep 23. Be a bit out of character if they dumped him so soon, but I suppose if the results aren't right...

He's only contracted till July. Funnily enough, swapping the 2 isn't out of the question

Ah. I just read that he's on a short term contract. It starts to add up. Nagelsmann did OK at Bayern iirc (but they still sacked him).

Yes. I do enjoy watching Liverpool getting beat though  I would be just as happy if they came up here and took Brendan Rodgers back from Celtic.

Tough act to follow
The key will be whether the Board give his replacement time to settle in and weather any inevitable wobbles like the team had last year. And if the media can resist tearing them to shreds.
Any of the suggested options sound like worthy successors, on paper.

I hear Joey Barton is available.

What about Gerrard? He wasn't too bad at Rangers.

The Scouse can keep their hands of De Zerbi a) he is doing a cracking job at Brighton b) he is universally loved through out Brighton and Hove c) He is being prepared for Pep's replacement.
I would fear for RZB winning the scouse around as he doesn't have the experience of European competition and big club management that Liverpool as a "heritage club" demand.
I think Graham Potter is shoo-in

Klopp's departure is another matter, and I hope for his sake, there is nothing sinister in a very well rehearsed and managed statement. From a professional point of view, he is obviously pissed off that the Fenway group are not giving funding going forwards (but he seems to be doing okay without that).
Perhaps a final stint at Bayern was too much to resist?

He will be missed - he has done wonders for the club , changed the attitude, sorted out a lot of the ego issues. Once he leaves , Gerrard will be eying it up as his job ( shame he is somewhat too crap to actually deliver). Rogers will be think that they will be on the phone to him in then next few minutes.
I hope they give Alonso the role - if not Zidane could be an interesting hire
