Rather nice that.

That engine is slightly confusing. It appears to be wet sump with a very high oil level if that sight glass is anything to go by. I read that it has a belt primary drive, that can't be the oil level?

If the brake calipers were swapped sides the hoses would be at the top of the calipers with a nicer run, as it is they're just flapping around in the breeze.

It’s not wet sump and you may be mistaking the timing inspection hole or the clutch pushrod adjuster hole for a sight glass. There are usually plugs screwed into the holes.
On 1971-on 650 and 750 twins, engine oil is carried in the fat frame tube under the seat.
They will have isolated the primary drive from the crankcase with a crankshaft oil seal, to run the belt dry of oil.

Something about it looks wrong, but I don't know what's wrong

Looks like they did it that way so the bleed nipples were at the top of the calipers. Which leads me to believe they've re-purposed a couple of rear brake calipers for the front end. Makes sense, as the rear calipers are much lighter than the old 'built like a tank' AP Lockheed calipers.

They're current model AP Classic race calipers.
As fitted to pretty much every classic race bike (with discs) racing today.

Cool. I stand corrected. But it's a slightly strange design - virtually all other calipers have the inlet and bleed circuits pretty much next to each other. At the top. On thinking about it, would make bleeding faster and more efficient.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 1:26 pm They're current model AP Classic race calipers.

The calipers are actually intended for Formula Ford and 267mm discs, but re-purposed by the builder.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 1:26 pm They're current model AP Classic race calipers.

Them formula fords have thin discs!
Iirc the APs are about the best twin piston opposed calipers you can get and most classic classes limit calipers to two pistons so you see them on LOTS of classic race bikes.

I had a set of the original Lockheeds fitted to my 350LC BITD and they were so much better than OE it just wasn't funny. Involuntary stoppies until you got used to them. But they were heavy bloody things, nearly a kilo per caliper. AP have reintroduced them for classic racing because of demand, and now offer them made out of magnesium as an option! (But branded AP Racing, not Lockheed).
