Difficult to justify as I hardly use the current bike I have, bit will at least keep it company in the garage.
All the coolest people have them.

How long ago did it hit as recovery can take a sodding long time or arrive quickly as it varies depending on how bad you got it and effects

Had it twice, once at 18 and again in my mid 30's and first time round made a full recovery, 2nd time i have about 65-70% movement back on the affected side of my face

As for buying a new bike the only thing that "might" be bought is a cheap track bike to share with the eldest steplad, but thats a big "might"

Had it 17 months , improved a lot in the first 3 months then stayed as is now, trouble is the nerve damage
has given my a constant dizziness and balance issues , hence not riding motorbikes.
Hospital have told me the brain can take a long time to work things out as regards dizziness so i am
still hoping it might improve.

I half fancy a KTM790 (2018-20) but the reliability issues are putting me off so I might just keep the Speed Triple

Already bought it! The x-adv is about perfect for my commute! I’m selling the cb1000r and once that space is freed up I’m kinda tempted to put an 80s 2stroke there, but I’ll probably lose interest once the weather breaks and I start going away in my camper…

I still want a MZ TS250 Supa5 or an older ES250 with the challenging styling I love.

...after I've paid for my new kitchen.

That ES is about 10 miles from my front door, it's a bit over priced tho.

Apparently the Supa 5 is capable of keeping up with modern traffic, the bits are cheap and a late 70's early 80's one doesn't need MOT or Tax.

They do have woeful front brakes, the common mod is to fit a Honda front wheel/drum. There's one that bolts straight in, but I forget which.

I don't know mush about the ES, I just think it looks brilliant.

I was going to look at bike this evening but the old man has been taken into hospital so it's an early doors flight to Dublin instead. Hopefully the bike will still be around in a week or so when I get back.

After having told myself and everyone else that there would be "no new bikes in 2024"... I of course have been making some casual enquiries...

Turns out the cheap GSXS1000F I bought end of last summer and quickly fell in love with how it rides, is worth what I paid for it as a trade in with some dealers... And one Suzuki dealer in question has a pre-reg 23 GSXS1000 that they will do a stupid deal on as well as giving me my money back on my GSXS-F too...

So it looks very much like I'll be on one of these within a few weeks... Improved fuelling and QS/Blipper and all...

Image

Joking aside, I had dismissed that it would be a £5k+ upgrade price and wasn't worth it... Turns out hunting around, I'm in at £3200 to change and I plan on keeping the bike for 3yrs at least anyway...

Otherwise... KTM 1290SAS is staying for definite. Nothing I'd change it for even if I had the spare cash to be honest. I'll give the 1390 version a try when it comes out start of 2025, and if it's good enough I'll work towards buying one in 2026 when I can pick up a low mileage ex-demo on the cheap... As for the Gasgas SM700... Well that's probably gonna go later on this year, I'll enjoy spring and early summer on it then look to move it on... I'll have had my fun on it by that point and got it out of my system, and selling it will clear the outstanding balance on the forthcoming GSXS and put £3k+ into the home improvements pot just when we'll need it too...

Yeah i had that as well but not for as long. Mine lasted about 6 months with the balance thing but the lasting effect for me was the frozen right side of the face thats still not right but i live with it and have adapted my riding kit to cope with the bright light problems and draughts that cause eye watering as i cant squint my right eye.

Hope it works out for you as its a long drawn out recovery

There's two bikes I REALLY REALLY want - not gonna be able to get either this year I shouldn't think. But you'll all know if I do!! LOL

Still a vague possibility that I'll try and buy my mate's XT600, but not sure I can afford that (or if he still wants to sell, think his AT is a bit too top heavy for him and he's lost some confidence in it!)

Anyway - I'll keep dreaming :D :D :D
Life is for living. Buy the shoes. Eat the cake. Ride the bikes. Just, ride the bikes!! :bblonde:

Hope all works out for your dad. There will always be other bikes
