Aprilia CEO Massimo Rivola has some interesting views on Motogp and WSBK.

Rivola said: “In my opinion, making the MotoGP bikes too slow isn’t very smart either. My first argument was that we can’t be slower than the superbikes.”
“We also need a price cap for the series machines because it is ridiculous to allow 45,000 euro bikes to compete against 25,000 euro bikes".

“The only future I see for Superbikes is Superstock rules.
“They should keep the same cool name, but just unscrew the indicators and rearview mirror and then race.
“That's the message that every manufacturer wants to convey because then they can sell the motorcycles.”

Yeah. I think running to Superstock rules would make the racing closer and cheaper.

I can understand why Massimo Rivola is saying what he has; Aprilia currently has no interest in WSBK and so he's happy to see it dumbed down. I'm not sure how it could be achieved, but I'd say the technical specification should be pegged somewhere between Superstock and where WSBK is now. Maybe a cost cap would achieve that, but policing it would be difficult if not impossible.

Restricting the bikes to Superstock rules would almost certainly lead to all manufacturers producing a mega-priced SP version with all the trick bits on, and off the merry-go-round would go again.

I'd imagine the current Superstock rules forbid "specials"

In a attempt to keep teams in the paddock & expand the grid this year BSB has the 'Pathway class'.
I keep reading that WSBK run more electronics then MotoGP,that's got to be expensive,maybe Aprilia don't think it's worth the cost anymore?.
