I can only assume it was the ultimate bike lowering project. It looks like a soufflé that someone slammed the door on.

I know a chap who bought a running and decent looking stock CBX for £10k and has set about making it a 'special'. Trouble is,he's a bit special and has no flair at all for mechanical things,yet he's been busy hacking off bits of the frame and welding brackets in random places,all while the engine is still in the frame and being covered with all the dust and schitt.

A mate is trying to help and curb the worst of his excesses,but it's an uphill struggle. He's randomly buying parts like single sided swingers that are never going to be plug and play and with no thought as to how the rear suspension is going to work.

If the thing ever sees the road again in any shape,I'll be very surprised.

There was a bloke on the Bikers Oracle VFR forum some years back who had convinced himself that what he needed on his otherwise standard VFR 750 (conventional swingarm) was a 3-4 inch longer wheelbase. So he had these billet swingarm extensions machined up and proudly presented them for our approval.

Except we all, to a man, told him it was a dumb idea and he'd wasted his money. He was not a happy camper. But he was American.

There's nothing wrong with that at all, a very nice 70's kit that needs restoration. I've sent it to a mate who loves that sort of thing.

The fibreglass is 1/4+ inch thick so they weigh a fecking ton too. I have 2 with lowers hanging on the garage wall to stop it blowing away in a hurricane.

A VX800 was by far the worst bike I ever had the misfortune to own, so anything different to what came out of the factory is a plus but mostly spending 50p on a seal so the fuel didn't leak into the crankcase would be the place to start.
