Blade runners - spreading?

Seen a fair few of the Blade Runners attacks on the ULEZ cameras on Twitter and also seen 3 cameras in Harrow with stickers over the lenses IRL. When they started actually cutting the cameras down I wondered if others would take it up and seems they are. 4 speed cameras in Cornwall have been cut down.

I grew up in Somerset, up on the Mendips. We were surrounded by quarries and I do remember tales of the 'new' cameras being destroys with explosives nicked from various quarries!!

So who ends up paying for the destroyed cameras? Yes, you and I, not those that destroy them.

I'd rather they placed stickers or bags over them, so that it makes tfl deploy workers to remove them. Just as much inconvenience to tfl, but less cost to the tax payers (i.e. you and I).

Putting bags or stickers over the average speed cameras would be a problem. The poles are bloody tall, and allegedly the originals were plastic. They have now switched to metal poles which may support a climber but are more difficult to fell.

Seems like a fruitless exercise as no one will know when & where cameras will be repaired, so ULEZ zone will still be effective anyway. Not that far removed from Bart Simpsons dad shouting at clouds.

They are doing that too. The ones I've seen in Harrow have 'No ULEZ' stickers over the lenses. I saw on twitter the other day they are also now wrapping them up in Christmas wrapping paper.

They are using angle grinders on the metal poles. I've also seen they are not beyond cutting down traffic lights at times if there's a camera there.

Nice to see a bit of direct action from the public, but cutting down traffic lights is life threatening and plain stupid. They're getting a bit carried away with themselves there.

Cutting them down seems a bit rash - if they're sited too high to disable by normal means surely the clever people can invent a paint-aerosol-on-a-pole which would do the job more quickly, more quietly and more safely? When I say "clever people" I reckon I could knock something up in my shed in ten minutes.

Oh I don't know, it's always been my experience that traffic flows better / safer when traffic lights go down, and no that's not an invitation for a drawn out 'staying alive' conversation.

I remember when they first started using cameras no end of them were *vandalized* when it became known they use $3500 Hasselblads...

Officers from the Metropolitan police’s counter-terrorism command arrested a 60-year-old man from Sidcup and a 61-year-old man from Horsham on suspicion of conspiracy to cause an explosion likely to endanger life or property on Monday. The latter was also arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.

And reading the BBC article is in a situation where residents had been complaining of speeding motorists & the danger, so more arseholes than the public fighting back methinks.
