New Bikes to Test in 2024

Post by Ditchfinder »

Any of you lot have plans for booking test rides on new bikes in 2024?

I'm looking long term at a smallish ADV bike for when I get time to ride in France in a few years time (hopefully) so currently on the list are:
  • The New Himalayan
    Voge 300 Rally
    CFmoto 450 MT
I haven't test ridden anything since I bought the Griso 4 years ago :wtf:

Although having the Triumph in proper working condition will be like getting a new bike. A back end that doesn't wag like a dog and a back brake that isn't dragging badly should make it a bit nimbler.

2024 XSR900.

But probably not until mid-summer. I do need to see what all the fuss is about regarding the CP3 motor.

Since getting the Triumph I can see why people like a triple - the noise and mid-range are quite addictive

Wouldn’t mind a go on the Ducati 698 moto.

I find myself looking backwards at classic stuff, rather than the sooper-dooper new bikes. I had a notion of a RSV4 Tuono, but I've convinced myself I couldn't live with the abysmal reliability. No bike is that good.

I also fancied a ZH2 after a run on one back in 2020. I talked myself out of that on the grounds of it's weight and my lack of restraint for big numbers, which is why I sold my 10R.

I really can't think of anything current that I'd want to look at,nevermind take a test ride. I think my stable shall remain the same, unless I sell the Zed and buy some other classic thing. I think I'd regret that,as it's sitting just the way I want it after 3 years tweaking and it's nice to have the certainty of something which will start on the button and take me places at the drop of a hat.

Hmmm, I'm going to say that there's nothing available I want to buy, which probably means I'll have bought something stupidly fast by the end of summer.

I haven't test ridden a bike since 1999. I have asked at a couple of places to be told that they don't do test rides.

Yep, the CBF that I bought last year was a stop gap for me so 2024 should be new bike year. The list is growing but at the moment consists of

KTM 1090 adv
KTM 890 adv
BMW 900xr
Africa twin
Transalp
Multistrada 950(?)

That's just for starters 🥳

The transalp doesn't feel as big to sit on I found. Still a lump but a more accessible lump.

That, it's been a good 20 years since I had my last test ride, and there's nothing on the market at the mo that takes my fancy over and above what I've already got.

I do tend to keep my vehicles for a long time and use them until a major repair bill is imminent. The Tiger lasted 10 years and over 60k miles 🥳

Yeah that does look like a good bike, it looks great and according to those that have ridden them they're really good, and a great deal when you consider you could buy two Transalps for the price of a full fat AT.
The AT is a bike that I've always fancied but I'm not sure if it works out twice as good.
Depends if you want DCT, that's the @s major advantage over the Trans.

Until Honda officially release their new robotic change thingy for the 750 twin.

I'll test ride the 452 Himalayan as soon as the dealer gets one in. My current 411 is a great bike, but if the 452 suits my requirements better, then I will (probably) order one. Will have to be a lot better though.

I test rode a 765 Street Triple last year, but didn't like it compared to my 14 year old 675. Think the over complicated dash put me off.

My 21 year old Deauville 650 was getting long in the tooth, so bought an NC750X to replace it, after a long test ride.

I also test rode the DCT model, but hated it, coming to the conclusion that twist 'n go belongs on scooters and mopeds IMHO.

I'm 'Himalayan curious,it's low tech & Euro 5,I can see a new or recent 411 Himalayan in the garage some time this year, but I'd be wary of buying the new liquid cooled bike until it's proven to be reliable.
My 2014 Street Triple is as high tech as I want to run so I've no interest in demo riding a newer version.
If someone came up with a SV650 on steroids, more mid range V twin grunt maybe up to 800cc,light weight & not overloaded with tech, I'd be straight down the dealers.I'm tempted to visit the local Ducati shop, but there's to much tech on a modern Ducati for me so I'll stick with the SV650 & the Street Triple.
