Nope, then we'd have fallen foul / failed to draft into law DIRECTIVE 2007/45/EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 5 September 2007 laying down rules on nominal quantities for prepacked products, repealing Council Directives 75/106/EEC and 80/232/EEC, and amending Council Directive 76/211/EEC
I'll have a read through it later, but I believe it only affects good destined for the single market as a whole and does not affect domestic markets. Bear in mind that stuff like this is agreed by all member states, if it affected the pint as a measure then the UK would have vetoed it or opted out.
It's an EU directive, it scraps national measurement's and each member state would have been expected to write it into their own national legislation within a period of two years. It applies to pre-packaged goods, so beer in a pint wasn't within its scope, I believe we got a historical opt out for milk but never cared enough to look.
If you do read it you should also pick up the consultations and court case rulings too as it appears it wasn't well received.

Long story short, who cares what volume any liquid is sold in providing the actual volume is visible and the consumer can see it / see what the price per 100ml is..
But haven't we sacked the EU off, by way of Brexit, and cant we now make our own directives?

Pint bottles for wine is a fucking numb idea, pretty much every variation from standard sizes cost more per unit price.

Plus, a pint? Thats not gonna get me far is it?

Brexit benefits? Blue pasports (made in Poland IIRC) and wine in fucking pint bottles.

Its embarrassing to watch. Cringeworthy.

I buy wood in mm which I need to convert from inches each time.
It's a pain in the arse, I'm for ditching imperial altogether even if it's a bit awkward for a while. Going backwards seems stupid.
Plumbing is the worst, I bought a metric fitting made in the Netherlands. 32mm one side and 40mm the other but it still came with an imperial thread.

You want to try converting back from kg into stones, pounds and ounces. (Let's not mention hundredweights). The only non-metric measurement that still makes sense to me is mpg.

I'm pretty sure that's because the BSP (British Standard Pipework) is the de facto Euro standard. I buy lots of plumbing parts in France and all the feelthy furrin threads match perfectly with stuff I buy in the UK. Personally I'm very happy with that arrangement.

Copper pipe diameters are a completely different thing though, France uses 8/10/12/14/16/18/20/22, we use 15/22/28mm. The french system is more logical, as all pipe wall thicknesses are 1mm, so a 14mm pipe fits snugly inside a 16mm pipe, with no need for adapters - just run some solder down it to make the joint.
There is no cloud, just somebody else's computer.

I get a warm glow whenever a yank calls em "English Units" though.

Then I tell them we call 'em Imperial Units. Cause of, you know, the Empire

Didn't the government's own research find that something daftly overwhelming like 98% of people want to stay metric?

Edit: 98.7% :obscene-birdiedoublered:

Only 0.4% of those asked would want to go purely Imperial, compared to more than 17% who would want to go purely metric. Vast vast majority just want to leave as is.

One of the daftest cross conversions was at Snetterton race circuit.
For donkeys years, about 40 MPH was the expected maximum speed in pits and pit lane.

But one day, about 20 years ago, at Snett they put up 60 speed limit signs on the pit lane entrance.
Woo hoo, no more dawdling about.
Until the circuit staff told us it was 60 KPH.
HTF would anyone guess that?

So some fancy office guy decided to try and be trendy and made things more dangerous. :D

There's a lot of things that are still measured with imperial measurements, roller chain sizing and computer chip leg spacings are just two of them.

I'd vote full metrification*, and also echo Longbeards comment up there. Who cares about the units as long you're getting what you pay for.

*Actually I'd vote for El Reg's standards. I'd like 6.78 walnuts of wine please.

I still think in MPG. Here it's measured in litres per 100 Kms.

Don't forget all the fish! Ok, the NHS may have reached the stage where no-one can see a doctor or dentist, but look at all the fish!

And see how we have tekken back control of our borders and reduced immigration.

Keep it Brexity, nice and Brexity.

Apparently we've opted in on a rule that fishermen have to have a 'fitness to fish' medical certificate before they're allowed to land anything. This has put lots of old Cornish small boat fishermen back on land. The thinking is, 'it's fairer on the RNLI'....not that they have to rescue many old, near-shore, fishermen but there y'go. Some of the fishermen figure they'd get faster treatment if they got rescued by the RNLI at sea than if they needed an ambulance on land. Meanwhile the likes of Eire have opted out of the rule.

Work that one out while you're wondering what happened to the 6 mile limit you thought you were getting moi dearz.

My guess is he means the damage now so clearly caused by the Brexity types is so extensive we don't need enemies.

And British Standard Pipe thread’s commonest rival appears to be National Pipe, another threads-per-inch system, but American.

Some of you need to fuckin' wise up. The 'Brexity types' have fucked nothing up, they simply answered a question differently to you.

Brexit is a fuck up because the government, from Cameron's onwards didn't want to leave the EU and hadn't got a clue how to go about it.

Brexit is a fuck up of monumental proportions because of arsehole Remainers and you can include yourself if you want to.

You're bitter and twisted because some people had an opinion different to yours and the people keeping it nice and Brexity are the people who agreed with you.

You wankers, Remainders, are the problem. :obscene-birdiedoublered:
