You've obviously never tried sending cash to the Philippines (by any means)...
Over the last five years I've transferred big numbers that way for projects, services and manpower contracts, no issues at all but it's all legal and through proper banks. If you're trying to move actual physical cash via western union to pay for mail order brides then it might get a bit tricky :D

Most places are fairly well governed now, but good luck getting money out of some countries, Egypt for example.
I'm speaking from personal experience from 20-odd years ago. Sending any letter was a fraught business. If you tried to conceal cash in any letter either the letter wouldn't arrive or it would arrive sans cash. Thankfully more modern methods of getting funds to the rellies have evolved, although even then for many years the only people dealing in Philippine pesos would extract a hefty markup - making Shylock's pound of flesh look quite reasonable. Nowadays it's mainstream and margins are similar to any other currency.

I know we're supposed to keep cash in society etc, but I really find it inconvenient compared to paying by card or sending/receiving money electronically. Cash is a pita...

Apparently cash usage is rising again in these rather difficult times as people budget better if they can see what they've got/spent vs waving a card. It makes it all rather more real.

I quite like having a few quid in my wallet, but I'm old skool. :D

I don't even have a wallet anymore! I have a Vena phone case with my debit cards in, but I mainly use apple pay for most purchases!

Always good to have a bit of walking around money in your back pocket.

I've always been a cash is king kinda guy, but since covid times have mostly made the switch to Google Wallet, although still have a couple of hundred quid in my wallet, just in case
