I've just realised that I'm a big film rewatcher. I try and watch a few new ones every week but I reckon I've seen most of the above at least 5 times, many of them 10+ and an embarrassing few more than 30 times I reckon. Some definitely 50.

Highlander, just to revel in its general crapness, plot holes, bad acting and more.

I was going to mention this one, but doubted anyone else would have heard of it!
Trivia point: sound track by the Penguin Cafe Orchestra.
Even bland can be a type of character

Re: Movie 'Classics'... What say you...
I have too. And possibly noticed and watched for similar reasons.
Re: Movie 'Classics'... What say you...
Given that my usual criteria for what makes a good film is that it must contain tanks or spaceships, preferably both, it's not surprising I forgot these.
Mad Max (My all time favourite. I can pretty much recite the script, even been to the old pump station in Melbourne where they filmed MFP HQ, had my picture taken on crutches just like a fat Jim Goose. The crutches were not a prop and genuinely required after a day long visit to the Royal Melbourne Hospital. I in no way broke my own foot to get out of a pre-booked day trip round the Neighbours set with my wife. She enjoyed it more without me anyway )
Time Bandits (sublime)
The Banshees of Inishiren (Strange, funny, and wonderful)
Bad Boy Bubby (holy fuck!)
And the crowning glory....
Wyrmwood - Road of the Dead.
Special mention to Dead Snow. It's subtitled, but who couldn't love Nazi Zombies on snowmobiles.
Oh, and Wheels of Terror. Sven Hassel fans will cringe, but it's so bad it's good. The chap who plays the clinky bottle chap out of the Warriors plays the Little Legionnaire.

Re: Movie 'Classics'... What say you...
The books were shite, enjoyable shite in their own way but still shite. The film must be startlingly bad. I must find a copy.McSatan wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2023 1:13 pm Given that my usual criteria for what makes a good film is that it must contain tanks or spaceships, preferably both, it's not surprising I forgot these.

Re: Movie 'Classics'... What say you...
I saw it as a kid when it came out... my parents belonged to some dodgy 'video club' on our estate where a typed-out list of pirated VHSs got passed around once a month to order from
I actually got a hankering to watch it recently but it's not on any streaming sites, unsurprisingly. Found the whole thing on Youtube though!

Taxi, if only for the opening credits segment...
...plus I was spending a lot of time in Marseille around then so that probably helped.

Re: Movie 'Classics'... What say you...
Lots mentioned that I like but I'm surprised that Le Mans with Steve McQueen, Cool Hand Luke with Paul Newman * and Papillon** haven't been mentioned yet.
Also...
Cinema Paradiso.
Malena (i kind of fell in lust with Monica Belucci watching that one).
The Fall. Odd film but just bear in mind its supposed to be inside the imagination of a kid and you'll be right.
*Dont forget Harry Dean Stanton singing.
**Both versions are good but personally I prefer the McQueen Hoffman version.
