It didn't always end well. NY skyscrapers had a thing called the 'splat factor' (or index) which involved the number of workers that found that the terminal velocity of a human in free fall being halted by the ground made a bit of a mess.

Many of the steel erectors working on the Manhatten skyscrapers were Mohawk Indians. It was a bit of a tradition for that tribe.Count Steer wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 8:37 pmIt didn't always end well. You should charge your guests, £25 a head... and a corkage surcharge if they bring their own booze.

What I've found over the years is that some Christmas guests turn up laden with bottles, treats, posh chocolates and offers to pitch in and get the dinner done.
And then there are those Christmas guests who just....turn up.

Re: utterly random picture thread.
We've been invited out tomorrow, our task was the cheese so I've got the usual cheddar and brie, some flavoured with black garlic, some with spicy pepper and some with truffle. I'm also taking a slab of beer, a bottle of port and a couple of bottles of wine. The couple we're going to are excellent cooks, I'm l looking forward to it.

Re: utterly random picture thread.
This afternoon I have been prepping like a commis chef on double time as we have 10 for dinner tomorrow before leaving on holibobs on Boxing Day.
Plus I've made dinner for tonight as we're just off to the pub.
