Homda CB350 Custom

Post by Skub »

I used to have a stock one of these as a Winter hack. Very pleasant to ride.

A reasonably tidy job. Not too hipsterish.

Oh lordy, pampas, avocado, some horrid blue and a sort of puke yellow. Such times!

I kind of like it but I think the seat's too small and the headlight's prissy. I prefer it like this:

Perhaps I'm colour challenged, but I like the colour and the headlamp design of the first. Overall, I would be happy to have as a toy to bimble on.

Nice enough, but the angle of the rear shock makes me twitch for some reason.

Because it won't work?

Unless there's some kind of rocker arm out of sight, I'm struggling to see how that shock would compress as the swing arm moves upwards.

It'll definitely compress/extend. It just might not do it very well :D But yeah the suspension is not "locked". It'll move.

I once installed a shock absorber upside down on my msx125 because the "gas bottle" (probably just a pretty bit of cast metal) needed more clearance.

Turns out the damping disappears if you do that, since the oil doesn't touch the valving. Not sure this shock will work right either.

It's certainly possible to mount a shock at that angle and for it to work well, you just need the suspension/linkages to be expecting it.

Moreover, it needs to be a pressurised shock so the oil goes to the valves.

What's really daft about that rear shock is that if you moved the swingarm mount down and the frame mount up it would work fine.

It's a bad copy of an early LC swingarm/shock layout with the geometry all to cock.
