Owning a Ducati, Enfield and a BMW must be the motorcycle equivalent of crossing the streams.

It wasn't planned this way (honest) but I own a Honda, a Yamaha, an Aprilia, a KTM and a Ducati so whoever wins MotoGP I can celebrate.

It's a great excuse (and I rarely need one)...

Never sat on one yet... Think it'll be added to the list of potentials for next year's fun n games. That'll be about "9" now. πŸ˜πŸ‘

I've not sat on either of them, Paul...however, I can't see it being any more comfortable/ergonomically suitable than the Triumph or MV which you kicked into touch in the other thread....just saying :eh:

The 899 ain't going to be comfortable as he says. It'll be bloody great, it'll be fast, fun, Italian.... but won't be any better than your average sportsbike.

You seem to be looking for a Sportsbike that's not a sportsbike, but is one.... It doesn't exist.

Buy an MT10 and accept it :)

Not keen on 10 styling. Wanting more sporty than mt but not mega uncomfortable. One way or another, they'll be a change on the horizon. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

My next door neighbour has a 899 Panigale: Looks nice, sounds nice, bloody uncomfortable. He's not as big as me and he looks cramped on it.

Hah!

You'd still have your knees tucked up under your chin, though. Ducati don't seem to do anything between racing crouch and MutleyStrada.

Seems the Supersport is pants. So what about the Streetfighter and develop some neck muscles.

I had an 889 demo bike for an afternoon and the riding position for me was, as Potter said, frog sat on a rock. All the weight was through the wrists and it was not very pleasant to ride at all when I left the dealership.

Once I got up to about 70-80 mph it made more sense as the airflow took the weight off the wrists a bit and then it was loads more comfortable. I treated it like my old 636B1H and it was a laugh to ride as a toy but unless I had it as a track bike I doubt I would have a use for buying one.

Bloke who parks next to me when I commute into Norwich for the office job is still commuting on his one but even he is looking for a more comfy winter hack as it’s pissing him off in city riding

One person on an internet forum that says they didn't like it, does not a bad bike make!

Also how fast are you planning on riding? Neck muscles only really get a workout at sustained illegal speeds in my experience, even an 80mph cruise on the motorway on most naked bikes is fine...

What do you want out of a bike...? If it's for pottering about on the roads having a bit of fun, then honestly, ANY sports bike is the wrong bike...

If you want a race ready, highly developed bike for occasional track days that also looks lovely in the garage, the 899 Panigale (or a 959, V2 etc.) will be fantastic, and won't cost anywhere near as much as a bigger Panigale to run and won't be as intimidating to ride either. Super strong engines too, the 899/959 motors have the same external physical dimensions as the 1299 engine, but with 100mm pistons rather than 116, they have a ton more cooling capacity built in! Pretty rock solid motors...

I bought a Streetfighter V2 earlier this year, as I'd always wanted a Panigale 899/959 but couldn't bring myself to ride a sports bike on the road again... Put simply, the SFV2 is just a Panigale V2 but with a riser handlebar rather than clip-ons. It's a bit more comfy for a day out, but that's it. It's still equally uncompromising and with that 60 profile rear tyre, it's not really happy unless it's banked over at 45deg or more to be honest. It's just a race bike with a handlebar, the exhaust boils your balls the moment you stop in traffic or even if you're riding along in temps above about 20deg C, the engine loves to rev but is also pretty gutless below 6krpm too!

Also, the stock suspension is absolute turd! And I really mean that! Showa Big Piston Forks are woeful, the Sachs rear shock isn't as bad but it's not up to the premium package of the rest of the bike, so IMO you're in for a shock and fork internals upgrade to be able to have fun on one anyway (which I did, and it made the bike much better, but still not a particularly suitable road bike)...

I did about 2k miles on it, and sold it... Have since bought a Suzuki GSXS1000F for 1/3rd of the price and it's a much better road bike, and just as quick...

If you want a Ducati to enjoy on UK roads, then get something that is altogether less focussed would be my advice. The Supersport 950 isn't a bad bike at all, especially not the S version with Ohlins suspension. Current Monster is a great bike too, or then there's the new Diavel V4 (mega money though) or any of the Multistrada's (V4's mega money again, V2 is a great bike but still not exactly cheap)...

Probably all the bike you'll ever need.
A riding friend is waiting for his to arrive...

He's PXing his Multi V4 Rally and Streetfighter V4S against it...

He also has a Ducati Desert X too! πŸ˜‚πŸ‘πŸ»
