£201 million jackpot on the Euromillions tonight!
Re: £201 million jackpot on the Euromillions tonight!
I'd buy a nice gaff in the sticks with a letter box which goes straight to a furnace so the house could be partially heated purely by burning the perpetual influx of begging letters coming at you from all angles.
When does it become too much money? I mean, unless you bought a plane or an island, how would you spend it all?

Re: £201 million jackpot on the Euromillions tonight!
The idea is to create multi-generational wealth... However it rarely survives the third generation
First creates the wealth
Second preserves it
Third pisses it all away.*
Bloke I know was one of four siblings who each inherited $2Billion.. but he was third generation & actually preserved it.
Died fairly young, was divorced so no wife to inherit it all
Two kids, the son also died early (in his 40's) & was gay. The daughter is a lesbian & pretty hard to look at... so fuck knows where the money will end up.
*This is why Anderson Cooper at CNN is an angry liberal, he didn't get one fucking cent of the Vanderbilt money.

Re: £201 million jackpot on the Euromillions tonight!
That would be 'enough' for me. A cool million would be better, more of a 'safety net'
I wouldn't even attempt to 'spend' it all - but I know I could find ways to use it/pass it on and help a lot of people

Re: £201 million jackpot on the Euromillions tonight!
Nor would I, I doubt I have enough time left to spend it all even if I wanted to.
Buy a dream house, stock the garage with a few cars and bikes, make sure all my family is OK, spread a modest sum around to a few dozen charities, and still have megabucks left. Then some serious research on a few charities to see exactly what they would do with the rest. The best answers win the jackpot.
Begging letters stand no chance.

Re: £201 million jackpot on the Euromillions tonight!
I'm not even convinced I'd buy a dream house. I'd just rent one or two. (I'd not exactly need to worry about increasing asset value and could happily dump issues around maintenance back in the owners lap ) Houses are nice to live in but looking after a big one is...a job I suppose I could do what a chap in Peaslake does...has a gardener/handyman that lives in a cottage on his quite extensive plot but employees can be as much - if not more - pain as property.

My dream house isn't huge - well, the garage might be! I mean sure, the dream is to have a chalet in resort - but I doubt I could live in one by myself and even I don't want that many cats!!!Count Steer wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2023 9:00 pm I'm not even convinced I'd buy a dream house. I'd like a really nice apartment with a spare room (maybe two, but two in total really would be enough!) on the ground floor. Much easier to manage than a whole chalet.
It'd be more likely I'd buy a chalet and rent it to a tour operator but have it booked out for Christmas and January so friends and family could come and stay!! Or something like that!!

In the US it's not that rare for regular workers to have $2M+ pension funds, I know several nurses who do.

It’s a kind thought, but with my knees it’d be as much use as an ash tray on a fish. Will there be a cash alternative?

Nope.
I'll book Cadwell for the day and you'll all have to come pick them up from the track and do at least 20 laps.

I have pretty much nothing pension wise, so anything is a bonus for me!!
Blimey there's some miserable old buggers on here!! Even with a spazzy shoulder, I'm going to be at Cadwell to pick up (not literally I hope!) my Panigale and do my 20 laps!!KungFooBob wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 9:22 amNope.

Mostly 401(k) type, all in company shares. Very cheap for the company, very dangerous for the pensioner.
Several people I know has £1m+ pension pots in Worlcom, then one day they had zilch.

Yeah. They might have to winch me on (more likely winch me off!) and Ibuprogen gel on my knees before and after, but 20 laps? Hell yes. (I'd have 'em on the brakes and possibly gan it up on't back wheel too ).Noggin wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 9:45 amBlimey there's some miserable old buggers on here!! I don't even know if I could get my right hand to the throttle, but I'd give it sodding good try !!! Might not be able to use my arm for a few days after but damn, chance to ride one of those around Cadwell - worth itCount Steer wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 9:57 amYeah. I will probably need to wear a numpty bib and buy some leathers ( I have never done a track day), but trust me, I will be there! Free Panigale AND brownies can't miss that!KungFooBob wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 9:22 amNope.
