But they're not as easy to play as they look and practice is quite difficult...on other people in the house. Marvellously bizarre bit of engineering from old Adolphe from Dinant though. I almost wish I hadn't donated mine to a worthy cause now.

Many good chinese Strats play well and the best bang for the buck we got for an amp was a, line six, came with peddles fxs and loud enough to gig early on think it was this one

Saxophone is the one instrument that I've always wanted to play and never had a go.

I tried clarinet, flute and oboe (and had all four sizes of recorder at one point!). But never got the chance as a kid and never tried hard enough as an adult. TBF, they were generally too expensive for me, but I still want to have a go one day!

Mind you - the oboe was virtually impossible for me to get anything but a squark out of!! Hopefully one day I'll get to try a sax and see if I can do better

If you were OK with the clarinet, the sax will be OK too. They're both single reed so if you had the ol' embouchure for the clarinet it'll work on the sax but the oboe is double reed and a different kettle of poissons. Never tried to play one but I can probably still play 'Pollywollydoodle' on a recorder, even though I haven't played since junior school (I was given a v nice s/h German wooden one).

Hmmm...clarinet....? There's a thought...

(Someone local person is doing harmonica lessons which could be a laugh...I could learn to play 'Home on the range' around the camp fire).

I have a mate obsessed with that song, he can play all the guitar parts, the bass, and even the piano outro. But if you mention Clapton he goes into a huff and starts muttering about Duane Allman....

Kids are information sponges,they can learn so much so quickly.

Years ago when middle lad took a notion for bass guitar he asked me for examples of songs with a good bass groove he could learn. As a bit of a piss take I said,'learn this one and get back to me'.

I was more than a little taken aback when I heard him play the song not that long after. I knew then it wasn't just a passing phase.

Mind you,losing a good part of 3 fingers on his left hand spoiled the party a little,but after a couple of years,once the sensitivity lessened he was back at it and finding new ways to skin cats.

Nah, his favourites are Pink Floyd, some RHCP, Manic Street Preachers, a few others i can't think of... Fairytale of New York seems to be getting playing time at the moment too. He seems to be picking parts of songs rather than full songs... Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was getting guitar and vocals last night !
